When Casey McQuiston walked onto the panel at Obsessed Fest on Saturday, June 27, she didn’t just talk about what fans can expect from the next chapter of Red, White & Royal Blue. She gave a preview that sounded like a promise: more together-at-home life, and romance that doesn’t hold back.

McQuiston. the author of “Red. White & Royal Blue” (the book the first movie was based on). was part of the event’s discussion—and she also co-wrote the Red. White & Royal Wedding script. With the characters “together now. ” she said there’s “definitely more domesticity in this movie.” That means viewers get to “see a little bit of their life at home. ” even as she joked she “really hope[s] [she doesn’t] get in trouble for saying this.”.

She then leaned into the heat level. McQuiston said the sequel is “a couple degrees spicier than the first movie,” adding that “the intimacy is kind of dialed up in a way that is really beautiful and really fun to watch.”

The Red, White & Royal Wedding is being directed by Jamie Babbit, with a script written by the first movie’s director Matthew Lopez, along with Casey McQuiston and Gemma Burgess.

Production wrapped relatively quickly. Filming started in January and ended a bit over a month later in early March. By the final day, stars Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine were on set—captured in photos circulating from the shoot’s end.

What McQuiston described—home life taking center stage, plus intimacy turned up—sets up a sequel that doesn’t just continue the story. It shifts the setting, so the relationship has room to unfold in both the ordinary and the charged moments that come with being together.

  1. Domesticity sounds boring but I guess like in a hot way? I didn’t even realize there was a sequel so this is wild. Hope they don’t mess up the vibe from the first one.

  2. Wait so filming wrapped early March after starting in Ja… like what is Ja? Japan? Jamaica? Either way they’re saying it’s more domestic AND more spicy which feels like a weird combo. Also Jamie Babbit directing always means it’ll be kinda edgy right? Not sure I get what “couple degrees spicier” even means.

  3. I’m sorry but I feel like all these shows/movies are just getting hornier to get clicks. If it’s more “together at home” that’s fine, but I bet the plot is basically them flirting in a kitchen. Also Matthew Lopez wrote it again so like… is it the same story or what? People are already talking about it so I’m just gonna assume it’s gonna be raunchy.
