Caroline Kennedy Chokes Up Honoring Tatiana Schlossberg

Caroline Kennedy broke her silence on Sunday at the JFK Profile in Courage Award ceremony, speaking onstage about her late daughter Tatiana Schlossberg, who died in December at age 35 after a battle with cancer.
Caroline Kennedy didn’t start with the pain. She started with welcome.
On Sunday, the 68-year-old addressed the room at the JFK Profile in Courage Award ceremony, where she spoke about her late daughter, Tatiana Schlossberg, following the family’s long quiet since Tatiana’s death in December.
Tatiana—John F. Kennedy’s granddaughter—died at 35 after a battle with cancer. The Kennedys and Schlossbergs have stayed mostly private since the loss, but Caroline’s remarks onstage offered the first public turn in a season marked by grief.
During her speech, Caroline spoke directly to Tatiana’s widower, George Moran, and to his parents, Garrett and Mary Moran. She also acknowledged others who were present: “This year, we even have new family members here. I am so happy to welcome Emma Shriver and Garrett and Mary Moran.”
Then her voice tightened. Caroline choked up as she returned to Tatiana’s memory, saying: “Most of all, we remember Tatiana who served on the board of this library and represented everything my parents stood for in her beautiful, amazing, and too short life.”
The moment landed onstage after the family had kept its distance from public updates since December. and it came with a sharp sense of what silence cannot soften. Caroline’s words tied Tatiana to the John F. Kennedy Library—where Tatiana served on the board—and to the legacy Caroline said Tatiana embodied in “too short life.”.
