When the first commuters start lining up at Boston’s South Station for a summer getaway, Cape-bound travelers will have an easier option again. The CapeFLYER train is set to resume seasonal weekend service on Friday, May 22.
The 13th season of the CapeFLYER will run from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, operating round trips on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Service also expands during holidays, and the MBTA notes the train will run regular service on June 19 during the World Cup match at Boston Stadium.
The partnership behind the route brings together Amtrak. Keolis Commuter Services. and multiple Massachusetts agencies and operators. including the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA). the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). and the MBTA. Keolis Commuter Services CEO and general manager John Killeen said more than 10,000 CapeFLYER tickets were sold in 2025. CCRTA administrator John Kennedy pointed to a 9% ridership increase on the CapeFLYER in 2025.
Kennedy tied that growth to the onboard experience. from the “popular bike car” to a café car offering food and adult beverages. In a statement. he said the CapeFLYER has become part of the Cape Cod summer experience. adding that it offers a “fun. relaxing way to avoid bridge traffic” and start a vacation “the moment you step onboard.” He also said the service expects to welcome both returning and first-time riders for another season.
The CapeFLYER starts at South Station in Boston and stops in Braintree. Brockton. Lakeville. Wareham. Buzzards Bay. and Bourne before ending in Hyannis. Riders get free Wi-Fi onboard. and there’s a pet and bicycle policy designed for vacation logistics: customers can bring a pet or bicycle for free. The train includes a bicycle car with racks for bikes and tool kits for tuning them up during the ride. There’s also a café car. The service is wheelchair-accessible.
Cost is also straightforward. A round-trip ticket from South Station to Hyannis costs $40, and children 11 and under ride free with a paying adult. Reservations are not required. Tickets are available through the mTicket app and also at South Station. Schedules and additional fares are posted on capeflyer.com.
For travelers who connect through Hyannis, the CCRTA helps with onward trips using ferries and buses to other Cape destinations. Passengers can visit CapeCodRTA.org for more information.

So does it run on weekdays too or only like Friday-Sunday? The article says resumes May 22 and I’m confused.
Free Wi-Fi and a bike car?? I’m sold lol. $40 round trip sounds kinda reasonable too, especially if you’re trying to dodge the bridge traffic like they keep saying.
I think it’s just May 22 then after that it’s over? Like “resumes” makes it sound temporary, not a full summer thing. Also World Cup June 19 at Boston Stadium?? Why is that even relevant to a train schedule?
No reservations required but still tickets sold already?? That’s gonna be a chaos line at South Station, mark my words. Also they say pets and bicycles for free—does that mean full size dog too or like a tiny cat? Bridge traffic avoider sounds nice but I’ll believe it when I see it.
