Cape Cod shooter claims self-defense after fatal stabbing

Cape Cod – Nicholos D. Campbell, 26, is expected to be arraigned in Orleans District Court Monday afternoon on murder and weapons charges. His lawyer says Campbell was acting in self-defense after being stabbed in the head during a late-night altercation at Moonfish Rest
The courtroom schedule was set for Monday afternoon, but the fight that led to it began long before then—inside a Cape Cod dining room where a man is now dead.
Nicholos D. Campbell. 26. is expected to be arraigned in Orleans District Court late Monday morning on charges of murder and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building. court records show. His attorney. Emir Sehic. told Boston.com in a brief phone interview that Campbell was acting in self-defense after he was stabbed in the head during the late-night altercation at Moonfish Restaurant & Tavern on Main Street.
Sehic said Campbell has bruising and a staple in his head. He also said Campbell turned himself in to police and handed over the gun he used. Sehic confirmed Campbell has a valid license to carry. though he declined to say whether his client knew the man he’s accused of shooting. He asked community members to be patient and wait for the full story to emerge in court.
Prosecutors have not filled in the blanks. The Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office previously said the shooting occurred around midnight Saturday. but authorities have offered few details about what allegedly happened inside the restaurant. The DA’s office has yet to publicly identify the man killed.
In a statement posted to Facebook, restaurant owner Velma Mitchell offered condolences to the victim’s family. “As a business owner and as a member of this community. I am saddened beyond words by the tragedy that occurred. ” Mitchell wrote. “No family should ever have to experience such pain. and no words can truly ease the sorrow that comes with losing someone you love.”.
She added: “I also keep everyone who has been affected by this tragedy in my prayers, including our staff, customers, and community members who are hurting and trying to make sense of what happened.”
By the time Campbell steps into court, prosecutors will be pressing homicide charges. His lawyer will be pressing the other story—one he says the public will have to hear in full.
Cape Cod Dennis Moonfish Restaurant & Tavern Orleans District Court Nicholos D. Campbell Emir Sehic self-defense murder charge
Self-defense always gets said first smh. If he handed over the gun though… idk.
Why are they charging murder if it was self defense? Like if he was stabbed in the head, that seems pretty obvious to me. Unless the story was like, totally different inside the restaurant.
The article says a staple in his head so maybe he really got hurt, but then prosecutors are still pressing homicide charges? Also “discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building” sounds like a parking lot law like wth. I just hate that we don’t know who the victim was yet, that makes everything feel shady.
Cape Cod gun drama again. People keep acting like stabbing someone gives you a free pass to shoot, but also… what if the “valid license” means he’s trained and he knew what he was doing. I’ve seen these cases where the DA holds back details and then it’s magically manslaughter or whatever. Either way Moonfish should’ve had cameras or staff separating them.
