Cam Johnson picks Towns for Finals MVP as Knicks lead

Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns has earned high praise from Cam Johnson, who says Towns should be Finals MVP as New York holds a 2-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs heading into Game 3 on Monday.

Madison Square Garden will welcome the Knicks back on Monday evening with a 2-0 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs, and the spotlight won’t just be on who’s playing well—it’s already on who might be rewarded.

Cam Johnson. watching from afar after the Denver Nuggets were eliminated in the opening round of the NBA Playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves. decided to make his Finals MVP pick anyway. In a message shared via OldManAndThree on X. the forward said he would give the award to New York center Karl-Anthony Towns.

“He’s their MVP at this point, for me, of the Finals,” Johnson said. “He’s been great, and in these two games, he’s been great.”

Johnson pointed to what he sees as the difficulty of Towns’ role on both ends. “Like, he has a very difficult task,” Johnson added. “You know. he’s not the only one that they put on Wemby. but it’s a very difficult defensive assignment. and offensively. like. he’s asserting himself but not anywhere outside the confines of what he’s supposed to be doing.”.

He also referenced Towns’ scoring efficiency and the nature of the baskets Towns is producing. “Spare maybe one deep three yesterday – like. everything he got was easy baskets that he created. or created baskets in flow. ” Johnson said. “And you know, 21-13-4 on 8-of-12, that alone is a huge reason why they won the game.”.

For Johnson, the award case isn’t only about numbers. “And so just the unselfishness, he’s a big part of how connected they are…he’s a big part of that.”

Through the first two games of the NBA Finals, Towns has averaged 19.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists, helping New York build that comfortable two games to none series lead over San Antonio.

The series now shifts to Game 3 at Madison Square Garden on Monday. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.

And as the Knicks try to turn their lead into something more decisive, Johnson’s message is already out there—Towns’ case, as far as the Nuggets fan can tell, is clear enough to name.

  1. I don’t get why Cam Johnson is talking about Finals MVP like he’s on the team?? But Karl-Anthony Towns has been doing work so whatever. Also 21-13-4 is crazy, can’t argue.

  2. Wait so Nuggets fans can tell his case is clear? I mean the Nuggets are eliminated so they’re just… watching tv like the rest of us. Wemby isn’t even in the conversation, is he? Sounds like they’re guarding him but also “not the only one,” so who cares lol.

  3. Cam Johnson really said Towns Finals MVP already after 2 games?? I mean I guess if he’s scoring efficient and playing defense, sure, but it’s literally Game 3 Monday. One bad shooting night and everyone’s opinions change. Also what does “unselfishness” have to do with scoring, like rebounds don’t equal assists sometimes.
