Editor’s note: USA TODAY Sports provided live updates and highlights of Friday’s matchup between the Dallas Wings and Indiana Fever here.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark exited Friday’s matchup against the Dallas Wings right before halftime after appearing to twist her left ankle, but fans at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis let out a sigh of relief after she returned to start the third quarter.
Clark scored 20 of her 29 points in the second half following the ankle injury scare to lead the Fever past the Wings in a 98-87 victory. She also recorded 10 of the Fever’s 14 assists to mark the 20th 20-point, 10-assist double-double of her WNBA career.
Clark showed no adverse affects from the ankle twist, telling the TV broadcast crew after the third quarter, “I feel great. I feel like we played with a little bit better pace there.”
With less than one minute remaining in the second quarter, Clark stepped on the foot of Wings forward Alysha Clark and turned her left ankle. Clark grimaced and struggled to put weight on her left foot. She fought to stay in the possession and immediately limped back to the locker room when play was stopped with 40.4 seconds remaining.
However, the Fever weren’t without Clark long. She was back on the court to start the third quarter.
Clark finished the game shooting 11-for-18 from the field, 2 of 8 on 3-pointers and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. She also added three rebounds and one steal.
Clark was probable heading into Friday’s matchup with a back injury designation, before being upgraded to available.
