Caitlin Clark didn’t just have a rough night with the Indiana Fever. She also got into a visible clash with her head coach, Stephanie White, during a first-half timeout — a moment captured in a video that quickly spread after the game.

The Fever guard appeared to start the contest with a rough start. and White was seen challenging Clark after that first-half momentum didn’t go her way. What followed looked like a tense back-and-forth: Clark was later seen talking back and throwing her hands up. On the court, it was another difficult outing for the star. Clark finished with just six points while shooting 1-of-7 from the field. She went 0-of-2 from 3-point range as Indiana was beaten by the newly-minted Portland Fire 100-84. The box score didn’t soften the blow: Clark added two rebounds and six assists in 22 minutes — the fifth-lowest playing time on the Fever roster.

The Fever’s season context makes the frustration sharper. Clark is in her third WNBA season after missing over half of the prior campaign. and the year has been a mix of highs and harsh nights. But she also leads the league in turnovers and is on track to finish with the second-most turnovers in a single WNBA season. The single-season record is held by Clark herself, set during her rookie campaign when she committed 223 turnovers.

Outside of the stat lines, Clark has also drawn public scrutiny for on-court antics — particularly her penchant for flopping — and for her attitude toward officials when calls don’t go her way.

Indiana has faced criticism too for a separate decision: the Fever were accused of scratching Clark at the last minute for a May 20 game against the Fire, despite her not being listed on the injury report. The WNBA responded with a warning to the team rather than a penalty.

With the Portland loss still fresh. Clark now has four days to prepare for her next game against the Atlanta Dream — where she’ll face college rival Angel Reese. Reese has been a welcome addition to Atlanta and is averaging a double-double for the third-place Dream this season. setting up what promises to be a tense matchup for the Fever star to rebound from.
