Brunson’s halftime shoe switch ignites Knicks’ Game 1 win

Brunson shoe – Jalen Brunson scored 30 points as the New York Knicks overcame early trouble to beat the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, with a halftime change from Nike Kobe 3s to Nike Kobe 6s sparking a late takeover. Game 2 is Friday, June 5.

For the Knicks, the start of Game 1 against the San Antonio Spurs didn’t feel steady. Brunson, New York’s centerpiece on offense, was dealing with an uneven rhythm early and an injury scare that hovered over the matchup.

At halftime, the pivot came from somewhere far simpler than the league’s usual tactical breakpoints: shoes.

Brunson opened the game wearing Nike Kobe 3s and managed 11 points by the break on a rough 5-for-15 shooting. In the third quarter, the misses kept coming—he was 2-for-7—leaving the Knicks chasing momentum as the game tightened.

Then he came out of the locker room in Nike Kobe 6s.

The numbers changed fast. In the last eight minutes of the game, Brunson took over, scoring 13 points during that stretch as the Knicks won and took home-court advantage from San Antonio. He finished with a game-high 30 points.

The moment landed in a chorus New York fans already recognized. Knicks superfan Spike Lee. who directed a 1988 Nike commercial starring Michael Jordan. has long framed it as a question of “the shoes.” Even Mars Blackmon. Lee’s character from the spot. seemed to have to agree after Brunson’s halftime switch appeared to flip the outcome.

After the game, Brunson leaned into what he can control: practice, confidence, and trust.

“Just continue to trust the things I’ve worked on my entire life,” Brunson said. “I think my teammates have the confidence in me, also gives me an extra boost, as well. I think it starts with my confidence. It comes with my work ethic. I think most importantly. knowing we’re on the road. and knowing my teammates have my back. I think that’s the biggest thing in an environment like this.”.

Game 2 is Friday, June 5, with the story already carrying a familiar New York theme: when the game turns, sometimes it starts with something as small—and as visible—as what’s on your feet. “Guess it was the shoes.”

  1. I don’t even watch the NBA but that Spike Lee Nike Jordan thing is forever, right? If those Kobe 6s are the answer then I’m buying a pair of something, idk.

  2. Wait, are they saying the Kobe 3s were cursed? Like why not change earlier or blame the refs lol. Also “injury scare” and then just shoes?? feels like they’re making it sound way bigger than it is.

  3. My cousin said shoe deals are rigged like the whole league is in on it. I mean the article literally says the halftime switch sparked it… so yeah it’s probably some conspiracy. Game 2 better be the Kobe 6s again or Knicks fans gonna riot.
