Brooks Koepka switches putter before CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Brooks Koepka is changing putters ahead of the 2026 CJ Cup Byron Nelson, moving to a Scotty Cameron Fastback 1.5 after ranking 141st in strokes-gained putting this season and struggling once he reaches the greens.
On a season where Brooks Koepka has been steady everywhere except the greens, the change is clear: he’s trying to fix his putting before it costs him again.
Koepka, 36, has been tinkering with his putter setup throughout the 2026 season as he makes his return to the PGA Tour. While he’s been “solid in every category tee-to-green. ” once he gets on the putting surface he’s been among the worst on tour—ranking 141st in strokes-gained putting so far this season.
Wednesday, Koepka said he will switch to a Scotty Cameron Fastback 1.5 before his opening round at the 2026 CJ Cup Byron Nelson. He had previously been using TaylorMade Spider models.
“It just feels good in my hands,” Koepka said of the new putter. “I’ve struggled with the toe release a little bit, kind of fighting that and holding it off. This putter seems to have a little bit more toe hang.”
For Koepka, it’s not just equipment—it’s a push to regain feel and momentum. “Hopefully I can just find some confidence with it and build some momentum off of it,” he added.
That sense of control is something he’s been trying to reclaim beyond the scoreboard. Koepka finished T55 at last week’s PGA Championship, carding a 3-over final score at Aronimink Golf Club. He acknowledged the gap between his stats and what he believes was happening on the course.
“I know maybe last week the stats didn’t quite say that they were as good as they were, but it’s also tough,” he said, via Golf Channel. “Do you get a lie in the rough, and are you able to advance it versus some of the pins last week you weren’t able to aim it.”
Then he narrowed in on what he feels is working. “But I feel like I’m in complete control of my golf ball — shape, spin, trajectory, everything seems to be right where I need it to be,” he added. “It’s just a matter of rolling those putts in.”
Koepka will tee off alongside Scottie Scheffler and Si Woo Kim at 8:33 a.m. on Thursday, with the new putter in hand and one clear hope: that confidence, once found, carries onto the greens quickly enough to change what comes next.

Brooks switching putters like it’s a new phone case lol
Wait so he was 141st and just now decided to change? I thought pro golfers always had the right one already. Hopefully it helps but honestly sounds like excuses.
The article says he struggles once he gets on the greens, so you’d think it’s like alignment or nerves not the brand of the putter. Also “toe hang”??? I barely even know what that means but I’m pretty sure Scotty already charges enough for the logo
I don’t get why this is news like changing putters fixes everything. He’s T55 last week and now he’s with Scheffler and Si Woo Kim… that’s a tough group, not gonna lie. Maybe the new Fastback 1.5 feels better in his hands or whatever, but rolling putts in is still rolling putts in. Also I swear he had some TaylorMade thing before, so it’s been a lot of tinkering, like just practice more??
