Brooke Shields says she’s too scared for surgery

Brooke Shields says she has nothing against plastic surgery, but she’s still “too scared” to get it herself—while also opening up about how aging, skincare rituals, and her current intimacy-coaching experiences on set shape how she thinks about beauty.

Brooke Shields has been in the public eye since she was 11, and the years of scrutiny have left their mark—not just on how she’s seen, but on how she thinks about beauty now.

In a new interview. the actress. 60. said she understands why people choose cosmetic changes. even as she draws her own line. “For me, beauty meant being smart and being strong but I acknowledge that there are changes,” Shields told People. “I fully understand that beauty is so much more than just not having wrinkles. Listen, I work out, I get face peels, I mean I haven’t gone under the knife. It seems tempting but I’m too scared!”.

Her approach is practical, but there’s also something deeply human in the admission: she’s grown comfortable with the idea of “changes,” yet still feels fear at the thought of surgery for herself.

Beauty, she added, isn’t just something she thinks about in private anymore. It’s coming up during her work as well. While filming “s** scenes” these days. Shields explained that productions now use intimacy coaches and that they even tape parts for safety and comfort. She said she was treated differently earlier in her career, when body doubles were involved. “Now they have intimacy coaches and they tape stuff,” she said. “I mean they did tape

stuff to me when I was younger. and I had body doubles. so that was very different for me. And now I want a body double, and they won’t give it to me!. So they’re equally ridiculous. There’s a hundred people standing around you. I think I’m probably more self-conscious now than I was when I was younger because things need to be lifted. so I’ve got to have a pulley system to lift ‘the

girls’ up.”.

For many viewers, Shields’ appearance without surgery can look effortless. She’s spoken before about how much work is actually involved—and how that work has shifted over time. In a 2024 interview with Allure. Shields described beauty as “always been a job. ” but said she’s started to enjoy it more in recent years. with help from her daughters. 23 and 20.

“It’s now become more enjoyable to me from living through it with girls. young women — their appreciation of it and their techniques. ” she said. “I’m starting to enjoy it through them. As I’ve gotten older. I’m starting to enjoy skin care and makeup more because it’s a form of self-care. and the ritual of it is calming. It’s nice to come back into it at this stage of life.”.

Shields also said hydration is a major part of her routine. She gets facials from professionals, but she doesn’t have a single go-to person or place. “I don’t have a go-to place or person [for skin treatments],” she said. “I love the at-home stuff. Every now and then, I have a gift certificate to [skin-care brand] Orveda. I had one of their facials [at an event the brand hosted] this summer and I loved that facial. It was so moisturizing and calming and zen.”.

Right now, Shields is also juggling the scrutiny that comes with being a household name and the spotlight that follows a new project. She’s on the press circuit as the star of the TV show “You’re Killing Me,” which is out now.
