Perthshire couple walk London bridges to back lymphoma

A couple from Crieff will be walking six miles across eight iconic London bridges next month for a cause close to their hearts. Brian and Liz Courtney will be taking part in the Charity’s Bridges of London event on June 14 to show their support for Lymphoma Action – the UK’s leading charity dedicated to lymphoma. This year marks Lymphoma Action’s 40th anniversary, and the couple are looking forward to raising funds and awareness to celebrate four decades of support for people affected by the
UK’s most common type of blood cancer. It is a cause close to their hearts, as Brian was treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, in 2024. “Brian’s diagnosis came as a huge shock, as prior to that he was a very fit and active 52-year-old” says Liz (54). “On meeting his consultant for the first time, we were given a Lymphoma Action publication explaining the condition and treatment. “This was hugely helpful, and something that Brian could keep referring to as treatment
progressed, detailing clearly how treatment works and providing hope that there was potential for a positive outcome.” “During the early stages as Brian began treatment, I found the Lymphoma Action website and social media pages to be an amazing resource for us both” she continued. “I found myself regularly reading people’s personal stories of their own experiences of lymphoma, often during the night when things can seem most frightening and was able to share many positive stories with Brian. “Brian has been in remission since
October 2024, so this challenge is an important milestone for us as it is now two years since his diagnosis and treatment” she added. “We are so very lucky to have had amazing people supporting us, including medical professionals, and our wonderful family and friends. !We are truly grateful to Lymphoma Action who we consider to be a vital part of that team. “It is for this reason that we have decided to journey down from Scotland to take part in Bridges of London, to
thank the charity and show our support for everyone affected by lymphoma. We will also be celebrating our silver wedding anniversary in London two days later – so for us this trip is a true celebration of love and life!” “We are so grateful to Brian and Liz for their support” said Amy Billington, senior fundraising manager at Lymphoma Action. “Bridges of London is a special day to come together – to remember loved ones, to raise awareness, and to show solidarity to those living
with lymphoma. “This anniversary year makes it even more special, and the event promises to be bigger and better than ever- we can’t wait to meet everyone at the finish line!” “Every year, more than 18,000 people in the UK are told they have lymphoma” she added. “Thanks to the support of amazing people like Brian and Liz, we can make sure that people can navigate a lymphoma diagnosis with the information, support and community they need so that no one faces lymphoma alone.” For
