The John Harbaugh era begins in New York on Sunday night. And the Giants are focusing on one potential path to help Harbaugh start his career as the Giants’ head coach at 1-0.
The perceived weakness is at the right tackle position, where the Cowboys recently acquired Broderick Jones to compete with Terence Steele.
“I mean, opportunity lies within the game,” linebacker Brian Burns said, via Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. “They’re both pros. Not to disrespect anybody’s craft or anything like that, but the fact that they are so concerned in that area does, I guess, raise some form of an alert in our minds, as far as like just knowing that they’re having struggles. . . . So we can definitely see that as an opportunity to exploit.”
Steele is currently listed as the starter. But if the Cowboys had full faith in him, they wouldn’t have traded for Jones.
Another potential soft spot has arisen at left guard, where Tyler Smith on injured reserve after thumb surgery.
And the Giants have plenty of ways to try to take advantage of the paths to the backfield: Burns, Abdul Carter, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Arvell Reese.
So while the Cowboys have dubbed themselves the “Greatest Offense There Is,” the first test could be a tough one — especially if the Giants come up with a way to successfully attack the 40 percent of the offensive line about which the Cowboys should have real concerns.
