Brewers score eight late, beat Rockies 9-7

Brewers score – After a rough stretch on the mound and a tense late-game collapse from the Brewers, Milwaukee flipped the script in the ninth and 10th. Christian Yelich was hit by a pitch early, Jake Bauers sparked key moments, and Aaron Ashby finished it with a game-ending d

The Brewers didn’t just dig out of a late hole—they poured gasoline on the comeback, one swing at a time, and found enough separation in the final innings to silence the Rockies for a 9-7 win.

Milwaukee’s night started with a jolt. Christian Yelich opened the game by getting hit by a pitch. He was stranded when Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang hit back-to-back groundouts, and William Contreras followed with a first-pitch pop-up to end the inning.

The Rockies struck early anyway. After Jake McCarthy doubled in the home half of the first inning, the Rockies used their speed and small-ball tactics, stealing bases to take an early 1-0 lead.

Jake Bauers, one of the lineup’s steady forces, kept finding his way on. In his first plate appearance, he delivered his 11th double of the season. Luis Rengifo followed with a groundout to drive in Bauers and tie the game at 1-1.

But the night never belonged solely to one side. The Brewers struggled to generate much against the right-hander Ryan Feltner. Feltner was making his second start since coming off the 15-day injured list. and he looked in control for stretches—six innings of one-run ball. four strikeouts. and just two walks.

The Rockies’ bats backed him quickly. Edouard Julien singled to drive in a run, pushing the lead to 2-1. Hunter Goodman then followed with a solo shot on a hanging curveball to make it 3-1.

On the other end, Brandon Sproat couldn’t escape the damage. He finished having allowed three runs on seven hits, and his form has been a growing concern—he has allowed at least three runs in each of his last five outings and, over that span, has given up four home runs.

Pat Murphy’s comments were still fresh for Brewers fans by the time the first inning folded. The thought was that Sproat could be sent down again with the pitching staff dealing with injuries, but with those injuries mounting, Sproat most likely stayed with the big league club.

Then the injury bug returned in a way that changed the mood instantly. Brian Fitzpatrick—called up from Triple-A—departed the game during warm-ups entering the bottom of the seventh inning. It appeared to involve his throwing arm. and there was no official announcement yet. though it was expected he would become the fifth left-hander to land on the injured list for the Crew.

After the game, it was reported that Fitzpatrick “felt a pop.” He’ll get an MRI on Saturday.

Milwaukee entered the bottom of the ninth with only one hit and one run. with the plate looking quiet—until Turang led off the inning with a single. It wasn’t the kind of spark that stayed small. With two on and no outs. Bauers delivered again. zipping a single into the outfield to bring the Brewers within one. Sal Frelick then tied the game at three with an RBI double.

Andrew Vaughn gave Milwaukee its first lead of the night, driving in a pair of runs on a single to make it 5-3.

For Trevor Megill, the timing was brutal. He came in seeking his first save opportunity since last weekend in Houston. but instead earned a blown save—his first since April 10 against the Nationals. With the bases loaded and control slipping, he walked Chad Stevens to bring the Rockies within one. Goodman followed with a sacrifice flyout that pushed the game into extra innings.

That set the stage for the kind of gritty, pesky baseball Milwaukee has been willing to grind through all season. In the top of the 10th, after a strikeout, back-to-back walks put Bauers on base again. He smacked his second double of the night, driving in two runs to give the Brewers the lead at 7-5.

The insurance came quickly after that. Garrett Mitchell and Frelick singled, each driving in a run, extending the lead to 9-5.

Aaron Ashby, the win vulture, came on in the bottom of the 10th to shut down Colorado. Even after he loaded the bases and allowed a couple of runs, he got the job done—using a game-ending double play to seal the come-from-behind win.

After a late night at the ballpark, Milwaukee will return tomorrow night looking to lock in the series win against the Rockies. Jacob Misiorowski will take the ball as he makes his first career start at Coors Field.
