Breweries court Pride—but new Canadians get fewer welcomes

New here. Some breweries reach out to the LGBTQ community as part of their DNA. See London Brewing for this. But are we missing out by not specifically reaching out to new Canadians with takes on beers from the nations of their roots combined with launch parties? Strong lagers with a nod to India? A beer inspired by China’s Snow? NEW AND NOTED Power pup socials – a dog and owners’ event – features golden retrievers June 14 at Powerhouse Brewing in London. While goldens

are the featured breed, all dogs are welcome. It runs from noon to 4 p.m. at 100 Kellogg Lane. It’s daytrip season, and what’s a drive without hitting Elora? Elora Brewing, best known for its pale ale Elora Borealis and Three Fields Triple Grain Lager, has a new session IPA, Maxin’ Relaxin’. Daytrip season, take two. Discover Kincardine and Grey Matter Brewing, featuring its new Japanese Super Dry Rise of the Robots. It’s over for Counterpoint Brewing, of Kitchener, which opened in 2019. Despite its

closure, there’s a destination-worthy list of interesting breweries in Waterloo Region, including Block Three in St. Jacobs and Willibald in Ayr. In Kitchener, there’s also TWB Brewing (aka “Together We’re Bitter), which, like London Brewing, is a worker-owned co-operative. In Cambridge, there’s Four Fathers, where recent releases include Home Game, a lager brewed with local Ontario ingredients. The OG at Four Fathers is Shevchenko 9, a Ukrainian-inspired dunkel. 1. I don’t get it. If they’re trying to welcome LGBTQ people AND new Canadians, wouldn’t that be the same thing? Seems like people just want more parties for the headline.

  2. Wait, the article says London Brewing is reaching out, but then it’s like “are we missing out” on Canadians from other countries? That’s kind of a stretch. Also golden retriever dog thing on June 14 sounds more important than the whole Pride thing, not gonna lie.

  3. They say “takes on beers from the nations of their roots” like that’s some easy combo for new Canadians?? Like just mix Snow from China and India lagers and everyone’s welcomed? I saw Power pup socials and assumed it was some dog charity, then it turns into like brewery gossip with Kitchener and Waterloo. My cousin in Elora says “Elora Borealis” tastes the same every time so idk 🤷‍♀️
