Brevard’s patriotic weekend turns on music, parties

Brevard’s patriotic – From a Toby Keith tribute at the Merritt Island Moose Lodge to free “America, Together” concerts in Vero Beach and Melbourne, Brevard’s calendar is packed for America’s 250th birthday—plus a butterfly celebration and a Color Fun Run.
On a summer night. it doesn’t take much to pull people out of their houses—good music. a familiar sing-along. and a reason to show up together. This week. Brevard’s community calendar is leaning into that exact feeling. with a full slate of events that run the spectrum from country to patriotic concerts to kid-friendly color runs.
If you want something loud. nostalgic. and unmistakably country. “Beer for My Horses: A Tribute to Toby Keith” is set for 7 p.m. on June 27 at the Merritt Island Moose Lodge 2073, 3150 N. Courtenay Parkway. Allengang Entertainment’s tribute tour leans into the energy fans associate with Toby Keith—20 number one hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs. years of crowd-pleasing momentum. and sing-along favorites spanning nearly 30 years. The night is built around faithful performances of Keith’s biggest songs. including “Courtesy of the Red. White and Blue. ” “Should’ve Been a Cowboy. ” “As Good as I Once Was. ” “How Do You Like Me Now?!” and “Beer for My Horses.”.
The show’s frontman. TJ Cronin. stars as part of the National Toby Keith Tribute Show. which recreates the high-energy atmosphere of a real Toby Keith arena tour. Fans can expect that arena-style crowd vibe, right down to the songs people carry in their heads. Stan Allen. CEO of Allengang Entertainment. said TJ Cronin is “a lifelong Toby Keith fan. who actually looks and sounds just like him. ” adding that “there’s a genuine patriotic spirit that runs through every performance.”.
Tickets for the Toby Keith tribute are $35 and $45 through showtickets.live, with seating at round tables of eight persons. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Popular pub fare and beverages are available for purchase at the full liquor bar. On the other side of town. the patriotic theme spreads out into free concerts across the Space Coast with a program called “America. Together.” The Space Coast Symphony Winds will present two free shows tied to the nation’s 250th birthday. The Vero Beach concert is scheduled for 2 p.m. on June 27 at Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street 32960. In Brevard, the Melbourne concert starts at 7 p.m. on June 27 at the Scott Center for the Performing Arts, 5625 Holy Trinity Drive.
Both concerts will feature traditional patriotic favorites, along with works by living American composers. At the center of the program is the “Armed Forces Salute. ” a moment designed to recognize and celebrate men and women of the U.S. military, past and present. The set also includes “Shenandoah. ” as well as works by John Philip Sousa. “America’s March King.” Popular local soprano Beth Green returns to perform “God Bless the USA” and “America the Beautiful.” Original works grounded in the American experience by composers Marshall. Piszczek and Daugherty are spotlighted in their respective world premieres. Virginia-based guest conductor Charles Ellis will lead several numbers.

If you’d rather keep it close to home and family-friendly. Suntree United Methodist Church is putting on “Suntree Stars & Stripes. ” a free patriotic celebration on Sunday. June 28. at 7400 N. Wickham Road. Pastor Mike Mayes said the timing is deliberate because “The rain can be unpredictable in the summer. ” and this year the picnic and fun can be enjoyed in air-conditioned comfort.
The food and fun begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Worship Center, with indoor activities and family games. “The littles” can enjoy the indoor bounce house. while older kids and adults can play Corn Toss. Jumbo Jenga. Big Connect 4. and inflatable jousting. A free meal—hamburgers and hot dogs with chips, cookies, watermelon and more—keeps the momentum going. At 6:30 p.m. the action moves into the church sanctuary for a concert of patriotic favorites featuring the Melbourne Municipal Band. the Suntree Chancel Choir. and members of the Brevard Community Chorus.
Pastor Mayes said the goal is simple: “We hope to welcome the whole community to Suntree United Methodist Church for this wonderful patriotic event,” adding that “Sharing a meal, music and fellowship with our neighbors is part of what it means to be American.” For details, call 321-242-2585.
Not every event is strictly patriotic music, but the weekend is clearly built for getting out and being together. Hot Pink. a popular group known for tributes to Motown. The Who. Queen. Elton John and more. is back with “That 7D’s Show. ” a fun-filled concert packed with familiar faves. playful surprises and retro flair. Hot Pink will perform at 7:30 p.m. on June 26, 2 and 7:30 p.m. on June 27, and 2 p.m. on June 28 at the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse, 300 Brevard Ave. Tickets are $40. Outside of performances, there’s a quieter kind of weekend energy too. “Butterfly Appreciation Day” runs from 10 a.m. until noon on June 24 at the Merritt Island Wildlife Association and Brevard Discovery Garden. with presentations on butterfly identification and pollinator ecology. plus hands-on tools for observing local species. The program ends with a guided outdoor Butterfly Count in the Discovery Garden. Admission is free, but an optional $5 donation supports the garden’s educational efforts. And for families who want something active and bright. Palm Bay is kicking off America’s 250th anniversary festivities with a “Color Fun Run” at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, at Fred Poppe Regional Park, 1951 Malabar Rd. NW, Palm Bay. Participation is free, but for $10 people can commemorate the event with a white t-shirt and a participation medal. The evening includes live music, snacks, and foam for kids—and yes, you should expect to get wet and colorful.
