Ronald Acuña Jr. didn’t just limp off the field—he left the Braves staring at a season-sized problem.
On Wednesday, the Atlanta Braves placed their superstar outfielder on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring, the team announced. The corresponding roster move came immediately: first baseman Rowdy Tellez was selected to the Braves’ major-league roster.
The injury happened Tuesday during the Braves’ 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Chicago White Sox. Acuña tried to beat out a grounder to third baseman Miguel Vargas in the fourth inning, then pulled up and was limping. Eli White replaced Acuña in the game.
This is the second left hamstring injury of Acuña’s season. He previously spent time on the 10-day injured list from May 3-18 with a strained left hamstring—also suffered while attempting to run out a grounder.
Braves manager Walt Weiss said the latest strain doesn’t appear to be as serious as the hamstring injury Acuña suffered in May. “It doesn’t seem as bad as the last one,” Weiss said, adding the team considers Acuña’s status day-to-day. “We’ve got our fingers crossed, hoping this one is not too bad.”
For Acuña, who is 28 years old, the timing is brutal. By his standards. the season has been quieter than usual: he is batting .251 with a .793 OPS and seven home runs in 53 games. His track record is built on big moments—he won NL MVP in 2023—but his nine-year career has also been marked by major knee trouble. with ACL injuries tearing the ligament in 2021 and again in 2024.
For Atlanta, the stakes land hard because they’ve been playing with rare consistency. The Braves entered Wednesday’s action with the best record in the majors at 45-22. Losing Acuña—even with the team hoping it’s not too bad—creates pressure to maintain that pace without one of its most dynamic pieces.
A native of La Guaira, Venezuela, Acuña now faces another stretch of uncertainty. One thing is clear: this injury doesn’t arrive in a vacuum, and it won’t be treated like it does—day-to-day is the phrase coming from the dugout, and fingers are crossed that the hamstring holds up.

Damn, hamstrings are the worst. Hope he’s back quick.
So they just put him on the 10-day list and call it “day-to-day”?? That seems kinda backwards. Also Tellez?? not sure that fixes anything.
Wait he got hurt running to beat out a grounder to Vargas? That seems like it should’ve been a non-issue. Like if he was fine then why limp off lol. I feel like they’re downplaying it because they wanna sell “not too bad.”
Hamstring again?? The dude can’t stay healthy, it’s crazy. I swear it’s something with how they train in spring or whatever, because the Braves always “fingers crossed” and then it turns into a whole thing. Braves were 45-22 too so of course this happens right when they’re rolling.
