Brantford Classic draws 1,600 runners despite old gaps

Van Horne estimated that it had been about a decade since Brantford Fire was represented at the Classic. “I come out to a ton of community events, so I’m not just being selective, but this one is one that really hits home for the community,” said another runner from Brantford Fire, Brandon Khan. “I have my family coming out as well, and you see big support from first responders everywhere here, so I’m just happy to be a part of it.” Khan marked the occasion

by sporting a well-groomed moustache. “I didn’t have a moustache before this event, but I grew this one specifically for it so I could crush my 5-km run today,” he laughed. Youngsters are a major part of the Classic these days as well. Several area schools had teachers and students take to the pavement for the cause. “A lot of our students benefit from the services of the Lansdowne Children Centre, and the kids recognize that,” said Krista Reading, a teacher/running coach at Cobblestone Elementary

School. “When they talk about this race, and I mention Lansdowne, it means something to them, too. It benefits so many kids.” In addition to a love of running, Reading encourages students to get involved in the community via events like the Classic. “It doesn’t happen without people who care and come and do it,” she said. Final results can be found online at rotaryclassic.ca.

  1. Not gonna lie the moustache thing is hilarious but also kinda wholesome. Wonder if everyone who runs has to grow one or they just pick random people.

  2. I don’t get why they keep saying “old gaps” like the race used to be gone for 10 years and then came back? Didn’t Brantford Fire always show up? Also 5-km is short so how did they get 1600 ppl, seems stretched.

  3. Good for them I guess, but I saw “rotaryclassic.ca” and thought it was just a sponsorship page not results. If the results are online why do they never make it obvious where to click? Also Lansdowne Children Centre… does that mean this is the same thing as a school fundraiser? Kinda confusing.
