A 13-year-old boy was arrested less than an hour after Chicago police say he pulled a gun and opened fire on a group of children on the South Side—then, Monday, he was charged in the attack.
Chicago police say the shooting happened over the weekend in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood. Around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, the teen allegedly pulled out a gun in the 4500 block of South Prairie Avenue and fired on the other boys.
Officers responding to the scene later found four boys suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said an 11-year-old boy was struck in the leg and a 13-year-old boy was shot in the foot. Both were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition.
Two other children were also hurt. Police said another 13-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. A 14-year-old was grazed in the back and was taken to Comer in fair condition.
The boy charged in the attack was arrested about 20 minutes later in the 4600 block of South Calumet Avenue, police said.
He was charged with felony counts of aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a weapon and having a gun without a valid license to own one. Police said he was expected to appear at a detention hearing Monday in juvenile court.
