High streamflow advisory issued for Bow River stretch west

The Town of Canmore is urging residents and visitors to use extreme caution near the river and stay away from embankments. “What may appear as sturdy ground may be undercut by water underneath,” the town said in a social media post. The town warned that the fast-moving water poses a serious risk, particularly to children and pets. “Be aware that stream flows like we are experiencing are fast-moving and dangerous; people or pets can be easily pulled into water and downstream.” Canmore is also advising
against the use of watercraft on the Bow River within the advisory area. “During high streamflow events, water is moving fast, it is extremely cold, and we also see an increase in debris that poses a significant safety risk,” the post continued. “We ask that everyone use caution and judgement around the Bow River. Rescues in these conditions are extremely dangerous for first responders. Don’t be the reason others are put at risk.” More information about the streamflow advisory can be found online.

So basically the river is trying to murder pets again?
My kid loves skipping rocks there… are they saying the ground under the rocks is actually loose? Like how is it even visible if it’s undercut? I guess no river wandering today then.
This is gonna sound dumb but if the water is flowing fast, why not just throw a rope at the embankment and be fine? Also ‘extremely cold’ like that’s the main issue?? I thought cold water is what keeps people from falling in, not pulling them.
People never listen and then act surprised when debris shows up. They should’ve closed it completely instead of “use caution” because kids + pets are gonna do kid/pet stuff. And what about jet skis—are they totally banning any watercraft in that area or is it just boats? I just feel bad for first responders dealing with that mess.
