Boulevard Yard opens June 10 for Kansas City summer

Boulevard Brewing Co., the already massive and popular space to grab a craft beer along Southwest Boulevard, just tripled its outdoor space by adding a rooftop bar and yard to its property. The Kansas City brewery is calling it the Boulevard Yard, meant to feel like a decked out backyard. The space opened June 10, a day before the World Cup began, with 82 outdoor seats, greenery, string lights, an outdoor bar and a view of Kansas City’s skyline. It’s an extension of the second-floor

patio that already existed right off of the beer hall, and it also conveniently connects guests to Boulevard’s parking. “We talked about doing an outdoor space for years, and with the World Cup coming to Kansas City, we figured that’s as good a time as any,” said Mary Clara Hutchison, marketing and events manager at Boulevard Beer Hall. The space is, of course, weather permitting, so on a day of severe weather like it was during the Netherlands versus Tunisia World Cup match Thursday, guests

will be pushed inside. But on a sunny day, it’s a spot where Boulevard customers can catch games on the outdoor TVs and enjoy some cold beers. The space will also feature events like live music and watch parties. Beer and “Quirk” — Boulevard’s hard seltzer options — are available at the patio bar, with a menu that features more than 30 Boulevard beverages, like the Easy Orange in a can, a Mango Punch Quirk, a Lemonade Tea Quirk THC and the non-alcoholic version of

Space Camper. Four beers are on draft: Tank 7 American Saison, Unfiltered Wheat Beer, Space Camper Cosmic IPA and Italian Pilsner. The patio bar menu heavily leans into serving Quirk and Quirk THC as a way to spotlight Boulevard’s seltzer program. “They’re made with real fruit juice, and they come in at right around 4% ABV, so they’re super sessionable, delicious and aromatic,” Hutchison said. “They’re perfect for summer.” If guests’ drink of choice isn’t at the patio bar, or they want to order food,

they can order from the bar inside and bring it to the yard. There’s also a variety of seating options in the yard, from orange patio loveseats and sets of outdoor bistro chairs to a large striped couch and multiple bar stools. Umbrellas are also available at some tables for those days when the sun comes down too hard. Construction of the yard space began earlier this year. The space was designed by architecture firm Helix Architecture + Design and general contractor A.L. Huber. Beer

Hall hours are typically from noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. But hours have been extended this summer during World Cup matches.
