The first thing Lauren Walsh did after deciding to make the jump was go back in time.

On her social media channels. the Medford native announced she was joining Boston 25 as a sports media journalist—an entirely new position at the station—and she paired the news with a little memory: she used to wear “Limited Too ‘athletics’ gear to Sox games as a kid because they didn’t sell team gear in the girls’ clothing section back then.”.

Walsh, a Syracuse graduate and former NESN intern, previously spent three years at WSMV in Nashville. Before that, she worked at WXII in Winston-Salem, N.C., and her career also included stints as a sports anchor and reporter in Burlington, Vt., and Syracuse, N.Y.

In an interview with Boston.com. Walsh said she’ll be joining the station “as a sports media journalist. a new position at Boston 25.” She also told the same outlet. “I am so grateful and honored to join the talented team at Boston 25. a station my family has watched since I was a kid. ” a line that lands differently when paired with her childhood Sox-game detail.

Walsh added, “I’m excited to bring my passion, energy, and storytelling to Boston 25’s sports coverage, and of course to cover the teams I grew up rooting for that helped mold my infatuation with sports.”

One detail remains unclear: Walsh did not say when she plans to start.

  1. I saw the headline and thought Boston 25 was hiring like a new producer or something, but “sports media journalist” sounds made up. Also the Limited Too Sox gear story is cute but like… does she know the teams for real lol

  2. Probably starting soon? They always do that “one detail remains unclear” thing like it’s a dramatic suspense. I’m just hoping they don’t replace people midseason. Medford native though, so that’s cool I guess.

  3. Limited Too “athletics” gear to Sox games?? That’s the kind of journalism I like, forget the stats lol. But seriously, Nashville, Winston-Salem, Burlington, Syracuse… that’s like every stop on the news route. If Boston 25 didn’t have a sports role before, shouldn’t they’ve just promoted somebody already there? Maybe they’re trying to fix ratings.
