Bosnia are reduced to 10 after Muharemović’s red

Muharemović straight – Tarik Muharemović was shown a straight red after a late slide challenge that stopped a clear Switzerland goal-scoring chance. With about 10 minutes remaining and Bosnia trailing 1-0, Bosnia had to finish the match with 10 men, and Muharemović is set to miss th

For about 10 minutes, Tarik Muharemović lived inside a single split-second decision.

Switzerland were in the attack, pushing to get the ball into a dangerous position, and Muharemović was trying to catch up. He slid in after the moment looked like it had slipped past him. In the scramble, he didn’t quite get the ball.

What he did catch was the attacker’s ankle. The referee moved quickly, producing a straight red card.

Bosnia and Herzegovina were down to 10 men with roughly 10 minutes to play, already trailing Switzerland 1-0.

A free kick followed soon after for Switzerland, taken just outside the 18-yard box. From that sequence, they didn’t score.

The red was issued for denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. Muharemović’s tackle was the kind of stop that leaves little room for debate: he used the challenge to block a Switzerland open look at goal. It was described as straightforward as a referee red can get.

The immediate cost is clear: Muharemović is likely suspended for the final group stage game, an outcome that isn’t ideal for Bosnia when the deficit and the clock were already pressing.

In the moment, though, there wasn’t much else available for Bosnia to do. With Switzerland holding a one-goal lead and time running out, the red card forced the team into a new reality—one where every remaining minute had to be managed with 10 men on the pitch.
