Boots, Hotel Costiera join 2026 cancellations

Boots canceled – Netflix’s Boots was canceled after one season, and Prime Video’s Hotel Costiera also ended after its first run. The broader wave of 2026-2027 cancellations already includes series across Apple TV+, CBS, Disney+, Food Network, Fox, FX, Hallmark, HGTV, MTV, NBC,
By the time Netflix had already moved on, Boots was still trying to earn more time—then it didn’t get it. The streamer canceled the scripted series after one season, cutting ties just two months after the show premiered.
Based on Greg Cope White’s memoir, Boots followed Cameron (Miles Heizer) as he joined the U.S. Marine Corps alongside his best friend Ray (Liam Oh) during the 1990s, when LGBTQ+ service members were covered by the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.
Cameron’s story wasn’t just about training and grit—it was about concealment. He was forced to hide his sexuality while trying to make it through boot camp alongside Slovacek (Kieron Moore). Hicks (Angus O’Brien). Nash (Dominic Goodman). John (Blake Burt). Cody (Brandon Tyler Moore) and Ochoa (Johnathan Nieves).
Before the cancellation, Boots had started to find an audience fast. It doubled its weekly audience and rose to No. 2 on Netflix’s TV charts.
That quick ascent didn’t translate into an additional season. Instead, Netflix folded the show away and moved to the next slate.
Prime Video’s Hotel Costiera met a similar end. The series premiered in September 2025 and was canceled after season 1. It starred Jesse Williams as Daniel, a former Marine working as a fixer at a luxury hotel—and tasked with finding the owner’s daughter.
Williams talked about the physical toll of production during the run. telling Us Weekly that he “lost 13 pounds shooting this show” while “eating pasta and bread all the time.” He also described how eating in Italy felt different from expectations shaped by America. saying he’d heard the “story time and time again” about visitors getting sick after going to the United States and that the food there is a “different world.”.
He added that he started out thinking he’d have to be “super rigorous,” but exhaustion on set helped him avoid putting on much weight. He called it “the sad truth” that it’s not America—saying “real ingredients” didn’t bloat or inflame him the way he’d experienced elsewhere.
Hotel Costiera also pushed him toward immersion off-screen. Williams said “language is a big barrier. ” and he learned “a little bit of it. ” but being there for a few months let him get through “the first two-thirds of a conversation.” He described moving through Rome—especially Naples—as a place that “gives you back the love that you give and the respect that you give.”.
He remembered a moment that landed more personally than a tourist visit. saying there were “absolutely moments in restaurants where I am coming across people who know my face and I’ve made some impact on them.” When those people heard him talk in Italian. he said it “throws them off completely. ” and they still welcomed him. giving him “a really nice welcome.”.
Taken together, Boots and Hotel Costiera are part of a larger cleanup across streaming and broadcast—one that’s already reshaped how audiences are tracking their favorites as the 2026-2027 season moves forward.

Boots got cancelled after one season? That seems wild, I didn’t even finish it.
So they cancelled both shows but somehow Netflix “found an audience fast” like it’s a good thing? Make it make sense. Also “don’t ask don’t tell” stuff always hits hard.
I swear if they actually waited like 3 seasons it woulda blown up. The article said it hit No. 2 on Netflix charts and still gone?? That’s just bad management. And the Marines angle… I thought they were gonna milk the controversy more.
Not surprised Netflix cancels stuff now, they always cut the LGBTQ+ stories first like it’s a marketing thing. And the other one sounds like Hotel Costiera is literally in Italy so of course the guy lost 13 pounds? pasta and bread my butt lol.
