Bonnie Tyler emerges from coma, remains critically ill

After a month in an induced coma, Bonnie Tyler is no longer comatose but remains “very unwell” in intensive care in a Portuguese hospital, with a slow recovery ahead. Her summer 2026 concerts have been canceled or postponed until next year.

Bonnie Tyler’s team says the 75-year-old Grammy-nominated singer has come out of a month-long induced coma, but her road back is still fragile.

In an update shared June 15 on her website. her spokesperson said Tyler “is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal.” The statement added that while her condition is improving. “it is a slow process. ” and that doctors remain confident she will make a good recovery. but “it is going to take time.”.

The timing of the turn matters. On May 8, Tyler’s team told fans that she had been “put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery” after she underwent emergency intestinal surgery.

The health update immediately reshaped the plans around her. Her summer 2026 concerts are being canceled or postponed. In the June 15 statement, her team said she will be unable to take the stage in the coming months, with shows “either canceled or postponed until next year.”

“This will affect every current show until the end of August. At present we are still hopeful that our shows in the autumn will go ahead,” her team wrote. “We apologise to all of Bonnie’s fans and to our promoter partners for the disappointment that this will cause but trust that you will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances. We hope to see you next year instead.”.

Tyler “is aware of, and very grateful for, your good wishes,” the statement added.

The contrast with her recent public life has been striking. Before her health issues, Tyler told the U.K. magazine Hello!. in an interview published March 2 that she was “fit enough at the moment” and “really enjoying doing the shows.” She said. “I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band. and if you’ve got your health. you’ve got everything.”.

For fans watching the sudden shift from touring confidence to intensive care, the message has been careful but clear: improvement is underway, but the schedule is not.

Tyler has been a fixture of mainstream pop for decades. breaking out with the late-1970s tracks “It’s a Heartache” and “Lost in France.” She later delivered radio hits including “Holding Out for a Hero” and “Total Eclipse of the Heart. ” the latter spending four weeks topping the Billboard Hot 100 after its July 1983 release.

Her latest releases are “One World One Home” — a song written for the documentary “Homeless” — and “Only Love,” both released in April.

In 2023, the Welsh singer — born Gaynor Sullivan — was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for her services to music during a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

As her doctors guide a slow recovery after the induced coma, Tyler’s team is asking fans to bear with the delays — and to hold onto hope for the shows that may be able to return later in 2026.
