A late-night crash off Salisbury Beach turned into a dayslong search after a boat hit the jetty near the Salisbury Beach State Reservation.
Massachusetts State Police said the incident happened at about 10:35 p.m. on Friday. Two people were rescued and taken to local hospitals, but one boater was still unaccounted for in the days that followed.
Authorities have not publicly identified the missing man. Relatives who spoke to Boston 25 News identified him as 49-year-old Vilmar Dorner from North Reading.
State Police said troopers from the Newbury Barracks, the Marine Unit, and the Airwing searched alongside the U.S. Coast Guard into the early morning hours, but they found no luck. Search efforts continued on Saturday as well, and remained unsuccessful.
By Saturday evening, the Coast Guard suspended its search for the missing boater, The Boston Globe reported. The Coast Guard did not respond to Boston.com’s request for comment Monday.

How does someone just disappear after hitting a jetty??
My cousin was talking about this like it was “just another boating accident,” but days later?? That’s not just a regular crash. They never say the guy’s name at first and it freaks me out.
Wasn’t it the Coast Guard that found him? I heard on TikTok they suspend searches all the time but then later someone shows up. Idk, I’m confused bc the article says they suspended it Saturday evening but still kept searching.
Jetty accidents are always bad, like you’d think the boat would break away, but nope. Also 10:35 p.m. sounds like no visibility, so either they were drunk or the GPS lied or something, not sure. I’m glad two people got rescued, but why would they keep searching for days if they already knew? Just terrible for his family, Vilmar Dorner or whoever.
