Blue Jays’ Shane Bieber hit hard in Sunday rehab

Shane Bieber’s second rehab start with the Dunedin Blue Jays didn’t go smoothly on Sunday, as he allowed six hits and five earned runs over 2.1 innings, including a three-run homer by Pedro León.
Shane Bieber’s latest step back toward the Toronto Blue Jays came with a jolt.
In his second rehab outing with the Dunedin Blue Jays on Sunday. the right-hander struggled early and couldn’t find his rhythm. He allowed six hits and five earned runs over 2.1 innings of work. One swing in particular turned the outing in the bottom of the third. when Pedro León hit a three-run homer.
Bieber worked through 49 pitches, throwing 35 for strikes. He didn’t issue a walk, but he managed only two strikeouts as his command and timing appeared to waver during the shortest of outings.
This was Bieber’s second rehab appearance as he works his way back from forearm fatigue that has kept him sidelined all season. His first rehab start came on Monday with the Florida Complex League, where he threw two shutout innings.
The 30-year-old Bieber joined Toronto at last season’s trade deadline while recovering from Tommy John surgery. With the Blue Jays in 2024, he made seven regular-season starts, throwing 40.1 innings with 37 strikeouts and posting a 3.57 ERA. Now. after an MRI during the off-season showed “nothing was wrong. just forearm fatigue. ” manager John Schneider has said the plan has been careful and gradual.
While Bieber continues that process in Dunedin, the Blue Jays also have another recovery step in motion. Max Scherzer, also working through injury, is scheduled to pitch for triple-A Buffalo later Sunday.

Damn, forearm fatigue again?
I didn’t even know he was rehabbing, but 5 earned in 2.1 innings sounds rough. Pedro León’s homer definitely didn’t help. Hopefully he’s okay bc forearm stuff can linger.
So basically he’s throwing strikes but can’t get outs? Only 2 Ks in 2.1 IP is kinda yikes. Also “nothing was wrong”?? That line always confuses me, like forearm fatigue is still a thing right?
Maybe this is why they traded for him lol jk but rehab is rehab. If he’s at Dunedin why is the headline saying “hit hard” like it’s some big league game? And Schneider said careful and gradual but then he gets pummeled by one swing in the third… feels like they’re rushing Max Scherzer too, Buffalo later Sunday right? Just wish pitchers would stop having the weirdest injuries.
