Blue Jays-Cubs Father’s Day game rained out, Aug. 6

Cubs-Blue Jays – The Cubs called off Sunday’s Father’s Day matinee against the Toronto Blue Jays at 11:10 a.m. due to steady rain. The game will be rescheduled for 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, with tickets automatically updated in the MLB ballpark app.

For a Father’s Day crowd that had already started to line up at Wrigley Field, the rain changed the day quickly.

The Cubs announced they had called off Sunday’s matinee against the Toronto Blue Jays around 11:10 a.m. Sunday, before the Wrigley Field gates opened to the public. The reason was straightforward: a forecast of steady rain all day.

The teams will make it up on Thursday, Aug. 6, with first pitch set for 1:20 p.m. That date is a mutual day off for both clubs. The Cubs will come into the resumed stretch after six games at Wrigley Field against the Yankees and Dodgers. After the Blue Jays game, Chicago will open a series in Kansas City against the Royals the next night.

Toronto’s schedule also shifts. The Blue Jays lose a day off after playing in Houston. They will head to Chicago, then resume their trip the next night in Philadelphia.

On the mound, Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Shota Imanaga, who was scheduled to pitch in Chicago on Sunday, will instead open a four-game series in New York against the Mets on Monday night. Counsell also said that after Sunday morning, his pitching plans were undecided.

For fans who still have tickets for Sunday’s Father’s Day game, the club said the tickets will be automatically updated in the MLB ballpark app. No ticket exchange is necessary.

When the game finally returns to the schedule, it will arrive as a reset point for a bullpen that had been struggling. The relievers Trent Thornton, Caleb Thielbar and Jacob Webb were part of the night that came before the rain decision.
