Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson kills “U.S.A.” chant

Chris Robinson shut down a “U.S.A.” chant during a Black Crowes show in Tampa, Florida, and called some booing fans “ignorant.” The moment triggered boos, walkouts, and a wave of backlash and defense online.

The “U.S.A.” chants lasted only a few seconds—long enough to catch on, short enough for Chris Robinson to put a stop to them.

At a Black Crowes show in Tampa. Florida. over the weekend. a screen reportedly displayed the band’s mascot dressed as Uncle Sam. Members of the crowd responded by breaking into chants of “U.S.A. ” and Robinson’s reply quickly turned the night sour. He allegedly responded. “Thanks for the geography lesson. ” before adding. “I don’t know what you have to be so proud of right now.”.

Videos circulating online show the tension escalating from there. Robinson can be heard saying, “Some of us have real faith. For those of you f—ing booing us, some of us are not afraid. And we most assuredly are not f—ing ignorant.”

The response drew boos from the crowd and prompted some concertgoers to walk out before the show ended.

Online, the clip landed like a spark in dry grass. One user on X asked. “Shouldn’t concerts be a great place to escape the daily grind?” Another wrote. “It’s just stupidity. Give the politics a rest for 90 minutes. ” adding. “I don’t know why they feel compelled to spit on their fans.” Others were just as blunt. with one comment saying. “Never a good idea to insult half of your fans. It hasn’t worked for Hollywood and it won’t work for the Crowes either. All they have to do is entertain people, keep political views out of it. Love the Crowes but this is a mistake.”.

But not everyone treated Robinson’s outburst as a dealbreaker. One fan pushed back on the idea of decorum, writing, “It’s rock and roll. You’re supposed to be offended. that’s the attitude that makes it dangerous.” Another argued the behavior isn’t new. saying. “It’s not ‘go along with the flow like everyone else’ music. It’s rebellious & Chris Robinson isn’t well known for his warm personality & happy vibes?. He’s always been like this.”.

Supporters also pointed to audience choice. “Chris can choose to say whatever he likes…. and the audience can choose to leave. What’s the problem? Someone get their feelings hurt?” one person wrote.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Black Crowes for comment.

The dispute comes amid a wider drumbeat of artists openly challenging how Americans talk about the country’s direction. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. who kicked off his “Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour” in March. have been vocal about President Donald Trump and his administration for years. The tour follows the release of his song “Streets of Minneapolis. ” a protest tune that criticizes Trump and his administration’s deployment of thousands of federal agents to crack down on illegal immigration in Minnesota.

During recent shows. Springsteen has described the administration as “corrupt. incompetent. racist. reckless and treasonous” and has dubbed Trump as a “president who can’t handle the truth.” In Newark. New Jersey. earlier this year. he called on his audience to join in “choosing hope over fear. democracy over authoritarianism. the rule of law over lawlessness. ethics over unbridled corruption. resistance over complacency. truth over lies. unity over division and peace over war.”.

For the Black Crowes, though, the argument hit a different nerve: it wasn’t just a political stance—it was the moment Robinson shut down a chant meant to sound like pride, then aimed harsh words at the people in front of him.

  1. So he got mad at a U.S.A chant?? That’s literally what people do at concerts, like… flags and noise. Calling people ignorant just makes it worse. I get being tired of politics but come on.

  2. Wait I thought “U.S.A.” was like a patriotic thing, not a political jab? Maybe I’m missing it. But if the band’s mascot was dressed as Uncle Sam, then the crowd was just reacting. Telling people they’re ignorant and “geography lesson” sounds petty. Also “real faith”?? idk seems like he chose the fight.

  3. This is why I don’t do concerts anymore, everybody’s triggered. Half the comments are like “keep politics out,” but then the band literally has an Uncle Sam situation going on. Either way, insulting booing fans at the mic is a bad look, even if they were annoying. I’m not even sure what the chant was supposed to mean, but walking out over it seems kinda extreme too.
