Bills Safety Damar Hamlin Takes On Expanded Role On Field And CPR Advocacy Off It

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is carving out an expanded role on the gridiron this season while continuing his dedicated off-field advocacy for life-saving emergency medical training.

Hamlin has seen an increase in playing time driven by injuries within the team’s secondary. His recent contributions included an unusual assignment during the team’s Monday Night Football victory over the Los Angeles Angeles Rams, where he filled in as the starting nickel cornerback. Amid ongoing struggles for veteran C.J. Gardner-Johnson, team insiders have floated Hamlin as a strong candidate to move back into the starting lineup on a permanent basis.

Beyond his athletic developments, Hamlin announced an important continuation of his community work off the field. He is returning to represent the Bills in the NFL’s 2026 Nation of Lifesavers Player Ambassador Class. Reporting by Zachary Penque of WGRZ in Buffalo noted that Hamlin is joining fellow NFL players to promote CPR education through public service announcements and community initiatives. Hamlin has maintained an active role in championing life-saving measures following his recovery from an on-field cardiac arrest during a 2023 game.

Reflecting on his return to the ambassador program, Hamlin emphasized the deeply personal nature of the cause. CPR gave him a second chance at life, a gift he stated he will never take for granted. He added that he operates with a purpose bigger than himself, thanking the individuals around him who knew what to do and were prepared to act during his own medical emergency. Through his ongoing partnership with the American Heart Association, the Buffalo Bills, and the NFL, Hamlin aims to use his personal story to inspire others to learn CPR.

Hamlin’s community involvement extends to several other charitable efforts in recent months, notably through his Chasing Ms Foundation. In September, he traveled along the New York State Thruway to Rochester to host a Home Run Derby at ESL Ballpark. Local reporter Ian Mills documented the event on social media, highlighting Hamlin signing autographs for fans ahead of the competition. The event was co-hosted by the Rochester Red Wings minor league baseball franchise.

Rochester Red Wings general manager Dan Mason spoke to WHEC-TV regarding the collaboration, noting that the event brought the local baseball community together to close out the amateur baseball season while showcasing regional talent from the high school and college ranks. As Hamlin prepares for upcoming matchups, including a game against the Las Vegas Raiders, his contributions continue to resonate both within the Bills’ secondary and across local community programs.
