Detroit Family Displaced Again After Car Crashes Into Newly Rented Home

A Detroit family is facing displacement for the second time in a matter of months after a vehicle crashed into their recently rented home on the city’s west side.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sunday on Prevost Street. According to reports from the scene, a car slammed directly into the residence, though no one inside was injured or even in the room at the time of the impact.

The home was occupied by Asia Ishmeal and his two young children, aged 2 and 4, along with the family dog. The household had only recently moved into the Detroit property after relocating from Kentucky, where a devastating house fire had destroyed their previous dwelling.

Following the Kentucky fire, the family experienced a period of homelessness before managing to secure the Detroit residence. Sunday’s crash has now left their housing situation critically uncertain once again.

“We was homeless when we got here, living in our car trying to figure it out,” Ishmeal said, recounting the family’s recent struggles. “Here we go again. I don’t know where we go from here. The only thing I see is us back on the streets again.”

Ishmeal noted that he is currently unsure of what steps to take next, raising the distinct possibility that the family may have to return to living out of their vehicle while searching for temporary shelter. Community members have since established an online fundraising campaign via GoFundMe to assist the family with immediate housing needs and recovery support.
