Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry sparked fresh health concerns for the franchise on Sunday after appearing to suffer an injury during the team’s open practice just days before the start of the regular season. Video footage from the session captured the superstar guard halting play and visibly limping as he exited the court.
Curry, 38, is entering his 18th season with the Warriors and is playing on an expiring $62 million contract. The veteran guard struggled to stay on the floor during the 2025-26 campaign, appearing in just half of the team’s games due to a string of lower-body injuries affecting his ankles, quadriceps, and knees. That absence list included a two-month layoff between February and April caused by an issue Curry described as runner’s knee.
When he was able to take the floor last season, Curry remained a potent offensive weapon. He averaged 26.6 points per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from beyond the arc. Across 43 appearances, he also contributed 3.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.1 steals while averaging 30.9 minutes per night.
His extended absences proved costly for Golden State, particularly while teammate Jimmy Butler was sidelined with a separate knee injury. The Warriors finished with a 13-26 record when Curry was out of the lineup, compared to a 24-19 mark when he played. Although Curry managed to return in time for the spring play-in tournament, he was unable to lead the club past the Phoenix Suns.
With Butler still working his way back from January surgery to repair a torn right ACL, a healthy Curry remains vital to the Warriors’ immediate postseason prospects. If Curry is forced to miss time at the start of the new campaign, head coach Steve Kerr and the coaching staff will likely look to Draymond Green to shoulder a larger offensive burden, while backcourt players Brandin Podziemski and De’Anthony Melton stand to see increased playing time.
