Bill Plaschke goes viral for calling out ‘whiny’ Caitlin Clark

On Saturday, the Indiana Fever got demolished by New York, and by the time the weekend noise settled, Indiana’s 2026 WNBA season had already become a test of patience.
The Fever dropped to 5-5, and the early results have left Clark—one of the league’s most closely watched players—stuck at the center of a familiar debate: how her on-court intensity looks when it turns into something the public thinks it can’t ignore.
Sunday brought a new front in that argument after Los Angeles Times sports columnist Bill Plaschke published a column aimed directly at Caitlin Clark’s attitude and her performances. Plaschke didn’t soften his language. He wrote that “In her third season in the WNBA. the once-shining superstar is acting like a spoiled brat. ” adding that the league’s most popular player has “become its biggest lout.”.
He also attacked what he described as an imbalance between Clark’s reputation and the reality he sees in her games. Plaschke argued that her statistics are “decent,” but that her attitude “stinks.”
A large part of the column was built around how Clark has behaved toward officials, which Plaschke repeatedly used as proof that she’s “whiny.” It wasn’t only about what happens during play, either. Plaschke pointed to a viral moment between Clark and Stephanie White as part of his case.
He referenced the exchange on the bench during a loss to the Portland Fire, writing: “Clark not only disrespects officials, she is unafraid to show up her coach Stephanie White, as witnessed by their recent viral exchange on the bench during a loss to the Portland Fire.”
The sideline spat between Clark and White generated headlines of its own, and Plaschke clearly believes it deserves to linger. Clark, however, has pushed back on the idea that what viewers see on screen tells the full story.
“I think a lot of those things happen all the time, and I know there’s a camera on me, and that’s how it’s going to be, but there’s a lot of people out there in the media or on TV that they think they know a lot of things, and they’re just blatantly wrong,” Clark said, via WISHNews8.
As the column spreads, the pressure on Clark to answer critics the only way the Fever can—by stacking wins—feels immediate. The team has a chance to start shifting the conversation on Monday night, with a road game against the Mystics scheduled for June 8 at 7PM ET.

Whiny?? people are so quick to tear her down.
I didn’t even watch the game but that article makes it sound like Clark just complains 24/7. Like refs are always the problem, right? Also why is everyone acting like 5-5 is doom lol.
Wait, is this the same Bill Plaschke that always yells about Lakers stuff? Because if so he’s probably just doing his usual thing. Clark being called “spoiled brat” seems insane—she’s literally a star and everyone’s mad she got attention. But I also saw that bench thing with Stephanie White or whatever and yeah it looked… not great. Cameras are messy though so idk.
Honestly this is why I hate sports columns, dudes pick one moment and run with it. “Biggest lout”?? bro cmon. And “whiny” like that’s even a real thing, she’s reacting to calls and people act like she committed a crime. If Indiana’s 5-5 then why are we doing attitude interviews instead of just talking basketball? Also the Portland Fire loss part… was that even the same Portland team? Feels like this is just clickbait from the LAT.
