Bezos praises Trump’s ‘mature’ return to White House

Bezos praises – Jeff Bezos told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that Donald Trump is a “more mature” and “more disciplined” version of himself than in his first term, while also recalling how their relationship has swung over the years—from “Jeff Bozo” jabs to Bezos attending Trump’s sec

On Wednesday, May 20, Jeff Bezos didn’t sound like a man recalibrating a business relationship. He sounded like someone enjoying a personal shift.

Appearing on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” with Andrew Ross Sorkin. Bezos leaned into praise for President Donald Trump. saying he has changed since returning to the White House. In the conversation. Sorkin pointed back to a previous interview—“it was about two years ago”—when Trump had just won and wasn’t yet president. Sorkin said Bezos then told him Trump had “mellowed” and was “calmer.”.

Bezos cut in quickly. “I still think that,” he said. Then he sharpened the comparison: “I think he has — I mean, I’m comparing him to his first term. And I think he is a more mature, more disciplined version of himself than he was in his first term.”

The compliments may land easily in a polished studio setting, but the history between the two has never been quiet. In 2014, Trump posted a Bezos quote on Twitter—now known as X—about criticism and trying new things. The quote read: “If you never want to be criticized, for goodness’ sake don’t do anything new.”.

By 2019, the tone changed. After news broke of Bezos’ affair with his now-wife Lauren Sanchez, Trump began calling him “Jeff Bozo.”

Still, the relationship has appeared warmer in recent months. Bezos attended Donald Trump’s second inauguration, joining Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.

Bezos has also backed a Trump project through Amazon. The company threw $75 million behind first lady Melania Trump’s documentary. Bezos described it as “a very wise business decision,” while also saying he had no personal involvement in the investment deal.

In the “Squawk Box” interview, he broadened the message beyond one administration. “I’ve worked with all the presidents. I will work with all the presidents. I hope to do that going forward, if they’ll have me,” Bezos said. He added a clear business principle: “But we need our business leaders to provide input into the administration. regardless of who the president is. ” and said he is “on the side of America.”.

He also referenced past relationships directly. “Like, I was helping [Barack] Obama every chance I could. I was helping [Joe] Biden every chance I could. I still call Obama for advice — he’s a very smart guy. And, by the way, Trump has lots of good ideas, and he’s been right about a lot of things. You have to give him credit where credit is due,” Bezos added.

The sequence is stark: early admiration that included a Bezos quote on X, a later period of personal jabs following the Lauren Sanchez news, and now a public embrace that frames Trump’s second-term image as “more mature” and “more disciplined.”

  1. So Bezos is saying Trump got “mature” now? Sounds like PR talk to me. I don’t trust anybody that does TV compliments.

  2. Wait I thought Bezos was mad at Trump like, forever. Now he’s praising him after going to some inauguration thing? Maybe Trump’s just nicer when rich guys are watching. Also “more disciplined” like… disciplined about what, taxes? Seems vague.

  3. This is why I hate corporate politics. Bezos praising Trump on CNBC while Amazon funds stuff with Melania documentary? Sure sounds like payback or leverage or whatever. And the whole “mellowed” thing, didn’t Trump call him Jeff Bozo earlier? People change, but money talks more than maturity does.
