Golfers, animals meet at Langley’s Paws on the Green

Golfers and animal lovers will be gathering at Langley’s GreenTee Country Club in June as the Langley Animal Protection Society prepares for its fourth annual Paws on the Green Golf Tournament. The Thursday, June 11 fundraiser supports shelter animals and community programs at LAPS, with a focus on the growing number of pet owners struggling with the cost of care. This year marks the fourth annual event, said LAPS executive director Sarah Jones, noting how the fundraiser has grown each year. “What started as a

community fundraiser has continued to grow each year, bringing together animal lovers, local businesses, sponsors, and golfers who all share a passion for supporting vulnerable animals in our community.” Jones said the tournament has evolved to help LAPS raise awareness about the pressures facing both animals and pet owners across Langley and surrounding communities. The funds raised will support animals currently in LAPS care while also helping expand prevention-based programs to help pets stay with their families, including programs like LAPS’ Major’s Legacy. The legacy

fund helps cover medical treatment, food, enrichment, rehabilitation, and adoption support for vulnerable animals, while also supporting community programs responding to rising veterinary costs, housing instability, and financial hardship. “LAPS believes strongly in addressing the root causes of animal surrender and abandonment, not just responding after a crisis occurs,” said Jones. In 2025, LAPS supported more than 3,250 animals through its programs and continues seeing demand increase for both shelter services and community support. The society will also be bringing animals to the golf course

at 7887 264 St., giving participants a chance to meet some of the pets they are helping support. “LAPS chose GreenTee Country Club because many of our returning golfers were looking for a more exciting and challenging course experience,” said Jones, noting how the course is beautiful and well-maintained for golfers of all skill levels. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch before the 1 p.m. shotgun start using a Texas Scramble format. Organizers are also planning games, raffles, and prizes at every hole.

After the tournament round, there will be a buffet dinner. “We’re most looking forward to bringing everyone together for a really fun and meaningful day in support of local animals,” Jones said. “One of the best parts of this event is seeing our community come all united around a shared goal of helping animals in need.” People can register for the event online. A single golf and dinner ticket costs $350, while a foursome golf and dinner package costs $1,400. Dinner-only tickets are available for

$100.

  1. So is this the tournament where you basically pay $350 to hang out with dogs? Seems kinda pricey.

  2. I mean I love animals but $1,400 for a foursome is insane. Are they really saying vet costs are up AND housing instability? Like same thing just different wording? Anyway hope they get enough people.

  3. Wait, it says “bringing animals to the golf course” but also “root causes of abandonment.” I’m confused… like are the animals also teaching golfers about financial hardship? Seems like a weird combo. Also 264 St?? is that where they hide the cats lol

  4. Good for them but I don’t get why it’s a golf tournament instead of maybe lowering adoption fees. Like if pet owners are struggling, wouldn’t it help more to just sponsor microchips or food every month? Still, it’s cool that they bring the pets out so people actually see them. Also Texas Scramble sounds like something that should be cheaper??
