discover some fun events to fill out your week. We update our listings weekly, so pop back in on Monday morning to plan out your week! Akademie der Künste goes Bellevue The Akademie der Künste will take over Bellevue Palace for two weeks with a pop-up art gallery, showcasing politically symbolic art in the residence of Germany’s head of state. This is made possible by the building’s upcoming renovation, which necessitates its temporary vacancy. Schloss Bellevue, through Jun 28, 11:00-19:00, details Chunking Express Open-Air Screening
Freiluftkino Kreuzberg is hosting a film series, Wong Kar-Wai Tuesdays, and this week the open-air cinema will be screening Chungking Express. In typical Wong-Kar-Wai fashion, the plot is simple: two melancholic policemen fall in love, one with a waitress at a restaurant he goes to often and the other with a mysterious woman. The melancholic, atmospheric direction is what makes this film special – perfect for the big outdoor screen! Freiluftkino Kreuzberg, 21:45, details Agriculture Concert The creative process behind the Los Angeles black metal
band’s songwriting is marked by constant conflict and repetition, with each song being persistently dismantled and revised before the final piece is put together. See them shake things up in Berlin. Berghain, 20:00, details Anacarsis Ramos / Pornotráfic Combining the life experiences of mother and son, this biographical and delicate theatre piece explores intimacy and relationships with humour and candor. Mexican artist Anacarsis Orlaineta and his mother, Josefina, appear on stage together and share their life stories: his move to Mexico City to embrace his
identity as a gay man, and her life as a working-class woman who held more than 40 jobs over the course of 60 years. HAU3, Jun 18-19, details Velvet Creepers present Caravan Obscura Following their recent smash, Nocturne, at Ballhaus Berlin, the city’s decadent doyennes of cabaret, The Velvet Creepers, pitch up at Zirkus Mond for a sizzling weekend of hijinks. Curated by tricksters Dunja von K and Fifi Fantôme, the new show will include their unique blend of circus, burlesque, drag and queer performance
art, which they’ve previously described as “Weimar cabaret on acid”. The lineup for Caravan Obscura includes guest performer Natsumi Scarlett from Amsterdam and Berlin’s resident rabbit, Scotty The Blue Bunny, as the MC. Zirkus Mond, Jul 19-20, 19:30, details 35 YEARS ACUD – To celebrate it’s 35th anniversary, ACUD will open its doors to visitors free of charge for an event as dynamic as the space’s programming over the years. Performances, concerts and exhibitions will be spread across ACUD: ACUD Galerie, Club and Studio (ACUD
MACHT NEU), Kino, theatre and surrounding organisations and spaces will be participating. Plus there will be tacos! The lineup is packed, so check out their website for more info. ACUD, 15:00, details Fête de la Musique Bring in the summer equinox with Fête de la Musique, Berlin’s annual festival of music with hundreds of free concerts. Now in its third decade, it features musical pop-ups on every corner in an eclectic mix of solo artists, bands and DJs, from hip hop to classical, hip hop
to reggae, at venues, parks, schools and beer gardens across the city. Our pick of the bunch includes Berlin garage trio Tarzan Grip performing on Tempelhofer Feld, punk-rockers EDDIE playing at Schlossgut Altandsberg and the psychedelic act Transcendencadence at Raum für Raum. Various locations, 14:00, details For more of our pick for the weekend, check out our Weekend Guide.
