Ben & Jerry’s Americone Dream won’t stop with Colbert

Ben & Jerry’s will keep selling its Stephen Colbert–themed Americone Dream flavor after the CBS host wrapped up “The Late Show” following 11 years. The company is updating the pint’s image and removing references to the “Late Show,” but the flavor itself—an in
Stephen Colbert’s final night on CBS landed with the familiar mix of applause and goodbyes—an 11-year run ending a franchise that began with David Letterman. But for shoppers who know Ben & Jerry’s Americone Dream by sight and taste, the goodbye isn’t coming for the pint.
The Burlington, Vermont-based ice cream company said the popular flavor “isn’t going anywhere.” In a June 1 statement, Ben & Jerry’s said its “Stephen’s Americone Dream flavor – a perennial fan favorite in Ben & Jerry’s TOP TEN flavors isn’t going anywhere.”
The company framed the moment as continuity, not a farewell. “The (Americone) Dream Continues,” Ben & Jerry’s said in that June 1 statement.
There are changes. though—and they’re the kind that matter to anyone who buys the flavor for the person on the label. Ben & Jerry’s said it has no plans to pull Americone Dream off shelves. but it is updating the packaging to reflect Colbert’s exit. Instead of wearing a suit and tie in the image, the new pint features Colbert in more casual attire.
The update doesn’t stop at clothing. Ben & Jerry’s also said the backdrop and any reference to the “Late Show” host were removed from the new pint.
Colbert’s departure also had a public sendoff on social media from Ben & Jerry’s. On May 20. the brand posted a tribute that thanked viewers for the “sweet memories” and promised the flavor would keep the connection alive: “We’ll think of you every time we follow a caramel swirl towards a chocolate-covered waffle cone piece.” The post also looked back from the start of the collaboration. saying the partnership spanned “19 years and counting. ” and pointing to “the American flag pint we unveiled back in 2007.” It closed with the message: “Here’s to 19 more as a top-10 flavor!”.
For consumers, Americone Dream is more than a label cameo. Introduced on Valentine’s Day 2007, it has been a staple in the frozen section of grocery stores nationwide for nearly 20 years—and Ben & Jerry’s said it will continue “for the foreseeable future.”
The flavor is built around fudge-covered waffle cones, with a caramel-swirled base that the brand describes as getting a “s’cream of approval from Stephen Colbert.” A non-dairy version of the vanilla-flavored frozen dessert is also available for purchase.
Money from the collaboration is part of the story too. Ben & Jerry’s said proceeds will continue to support charitable causes through the Stephen Colbert Americone Dream Fund.
In the end, the transition is about timing and presentation, not a withdrawal from the aisle. Colbert’s late-night era has ended, but Americone Dream’s shelf life is staying intact—caramel swirls and waffle-cone crunch included.
