Speaking after practice, Johnson praised the speed, confidence, and execution of Ben Johnson’s offense before making an eye-catching comparison.
“Honestly, this is probably the best offense I’ve had in seven years, as far as going against them, for sure,” Johnson said. “They’ve got a lot of speed. Caleb’s the best quarterback I’ve had, again, since I feel like maybe Nick Foles, if you want to go back that far. Just as far as slinging it, I feel like he’s definitely doing his thing, you can see the accuracy, you can see the confidence, throwing the ball in tight windows is something that’s stood out to me.”
While the Nick Foles reference may raise a few smiles, Johnson’s overall message was unmistakable. Williams’ arm talent, decisiveness, and command of the offense has been truly impressive. That insight offers another encouraging sign that the former No. 1 overall pick is taking a significant step forward entering the 2026 NFL season.
The Bears spent the offseason aggressively reshaping the roster around Williams. General manager Ryan Poles created salary-cap flexibility by trading wide receiver DJ Moore.
