Cricket, tea and charity: Lasne-Ohain hosts garden party

The British community is gathering for its annual summer celebration and charity fundraiser in Lasne-Ohain on Sunday 21 June. The eighth edition of the bucolic garden party is organised by the Brussels British Community Association in the grounds of the Royal Brussels Cricket Club. “Our summer party is always an opportunity for the British community and our friends, anglophones and anglophiles, to get together in a relaxed and – hopefully – not too sunny setting. The event has very much the ambiance of a village

fete somewhere deep in the British countryside with tea, Pimms and cricket,” says BBCA chair Tim Reynolds. While the ‘village green’ cricket plays in the background, a feast of British-themed refreshments await. They include the popular Tim’s Pimm’s and mocktails bar, a BBQ (organised by Stonemanor) and a tea stand with cake and strawberries and cream. Drinks are also available from the clubhouse cash bar. A highlight for youngsters is a series of traditional games such as an egg and spoon race, three-legged race and

a tug of war. As ever, the garden party’s popular raffle offers prizes by generous donors and will raise much-needed cash for the BBCA’s local charities, CHS, BCF, the Brussels Branch of the Royal British Legion and The Wednesday Club. Although entrance is free, prior registration is helpful for organisers to cater for the party. While some seating is provided, visitors are welcome to bring along their own folding chairs and picnic rugs. All the food and drink outlets (except the cricket club bar) require

tickets, which can be purchased at the entrance. For more information, contact the organisers at BBCA.NewsAndEvents@gmail.com. BBCA Midsummer Garden Party Sunday 21 June, 13.00-18.00 Royal Brussels Cricket Club Chemin des Messes 39 1380 Lasne-Ohain
