Lindsay Clancy is set to step back into the courtroom Thursday for an in-person appearance that doesn’t happen often—while attorneys argue over the evidence jurors will be allowed to hear and see when her murder trial starts next month.

The 35-year-old Duxbury mother is accused of killing her three children at home in 2023. Nearly a month before trial day, she has made most of her prior appearances remotely from Tewksbury Hospital, where she is receiving treatment while she awaits her July 20 trial.

Clancy has pleaded not guilty to murder and strangulation charges involving the deaths of 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan Clancy. In her defense, she says she struggled with postpartum mental illness and auditory hallucinations after giving birth to her youngest child.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington has said he will pursue an insanity defense. Prosecutors, however, have portrayed Clancy as a cold and calculating killer. They allege she purposefully sent her husband, Patrick Clancy, out to run errands on Jan. 24, 2023, giving herself time to kill their children and attempt suicide.

Now, prosecutors are asking a judge for permission to play jurors an audio recording of the 911 call Patrick Clancy made after returning home and finding his wife paralyzed and their three children dead or dying.

In a recent court filing. prosecutors argued that “While the contents of the 911 call may be emotional. they are more probative than prejudicial.” They say the call will do more than set a tone for the jury—it will help establish the timeline of events and. according to their theory. the manner in which Lindsay Clancy allegedly wrapped an “exercise band” around each child’s neck.

Prosecutors also noted that Patrick Clancy will testify during the trial and be available for cross-examination.

Separately, prosecutors asked for permission to show the jury crime scene pictures and autopsy photos of the Clancy children. In their motions. they wrote that “These photographs will help to display a complete picture of the incident and the cause and manner of death for the jury.” They added that the photographs the Commonwealth intends to enter in evidence are graphic. but not gruesome or likely to shock jurors in this day and age.

Clancy’s final pre-trial conference will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The livestream for Thursday’s proceedings is set to be available through NBC10 Boston.

  1. So they’re gonna play the 911 call and show pics? That seems cruel to the kids still, like why is it even needed.

  2. Wait it says she’s in Tewksbury Hospital but then she “returns” to court? Like is she well enough or not? Sounds like they’re just trying to make it a show for TV.

  3. I keep seeing people say “insanity defense” but then also postpartum mental illness and hallucinations—aren’t those basically the same thing? Either way, the 911 call should be too emotional to even use if it’s about “timeline.”

  4. This whole 911 call thing is gonna be edited by whoever has the power. Like they claim it’s not gruesome but graphic is graphic… also the exercise band around each child’s neck?? That part alone is insane, so of course jurors are gonna get prejudiced no matter what they say. NBC10 livestream sounds wild too, I wouldn’t even watch that.
