The July 28 episode of TLC’s ‘Baylen Out Loud’ shows Baylen Dupree discussing the need for her medication and how it manages her Tourette syndrome.
Baylen Dupree-Dooley and her parents are opening up about the darkest time in her life.
In USA TODAY’s exclusive sneak peek for the July 28 episode of “Baylen Out Loud,” the 23-year-old Tourette’s awareness advocate sits down with her mother, Julie Dupree, and father, Allen Dupree, to discuss how she went without her medication for multiple days.
The reality TV star temporarily forewent the medication that treats her Tourette Syndrome during a vacation to Myrtle Beach with then-fiancé Colin Dooley in a July 21 episode. During the visit, she found herself struggling emotionally and said she “won’t start feeling like myself again until like a week and a half, maybe a week.”
In the July 28 episode, Baylen tells her mother that she waited two-and-a-half days after running out of her last supply before ordering more.
Julie says, worrying, “I didn’t realize you went that long.”
“That will never happen again,” Baylen replies. “These meds do help me a lot, and I can’t just be off of them.”
She assured them both that she has received five refills, so she never finds herself without any again for the next five months. Her parents also suggest she order an emergency supply.
Baylen Dupree admits, ‘I no longer wanted to be here’
In a confessional, Baylen and Allen discuss the importance of her being medicated after a dark period in her life when she went without it.
“Five years ago, I was in a very depressive place in my life. And I no longer wanted to be here, which is one of the hardest things to say and, like, actually say it out loud,” she says through tears. “I was in a very different time than now. But I definitely think that both my parents hold on to that memory. If I was a parent, it wouldn’t leave my head.”
Allen replies, “That’s exactly where my mind goes. [I’ll] never forget, I’ll take that right to the grave.”
In the July 21 episode, Colin Dooley, whom Baylen married on May 9, said he “didn’t know unmedicated Baylen. I’ve only known medicated Baylen.”
She replies, “You’ve always really been patient and giving and understanding. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to marry in a month.”
Baylen was formally diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome in 2020 and has long used her massive social media platform and TV show to raise awareness about the experiences and misconceptions that people with the condition grapple with. The TLC reality show is in its third season.
