Austin Metcalf’s Parents Break Down as Bodycam Plays

In Karmelo Anthony’s murder trial, Austin Metcalf’s parents visibly broke down as prosecutors played bodycam footage showing paramedics performing CPR after Austin was stabbed at a Texas high school track meet.
The courtroom fell heavy as Austin Metcalf’s parents watched bodycam footage of paramedics trying to save their son. Tears started flowing as prosecutors played the video in Karmelo Anthony’s murder trial, capturing the frantic moments after Austin was stabbed with a fatal wound.
The gut-wrenching footage, shown in court Friday, depicted paramedics giving Austin CPR at a Texas high school track meet. Austin lay unresponsive on the ground while responders worked to keep him alive.
It was hard for Austin’s parents to watch. They broke down in tears and were held by family members as the footage played.
Prosecutors introduced the intense scene after Frisco Police Officer Jacob Shalz— the officer who found the alleged murder weapon—took the stand. Shalz testified that he found the knife in the bleachers. “approximately three to four rows up above the crime scene.” The prosecution also showed a picture of the bloody knife. reportedly looking like a 5-inch folding knife.
Shalz told the court he located Karmelo’s backpack and covered it to protect any evidence from the rain. Both the backpack and the knife were entered into evidence.
Karmelo is charged with murder for allegedly stabbing Austin to death. He has pleaded not guilty. The trial began this week, and if convicted, he could face life in prison.
The sequence of what jurors saw and what officers described followed the same path: the emergency response caught on video. then the search for the alleged weapon and the steps taken to preserve evidence. For the family, it was the same tragedy—replayed in real time, frame by frame—while the case pushed forward.

That’s just heartbreaking… I can’t imagine watching your kid get CPR on video.
Wait so they stabbed him at a track meet and the bodycam was from the officer who found the knife? Why is the knife even shown like that, that seems messed up. Also 5-inch knife?? feels small for murder but I guess.
Why are they playing the video at all in court… like yes it’s evidence but they’re basically hurting the family again. My cousin went to Frisco once so I’m not saying it was the wrong place or anything, just hate that the news is all over it. And the officer covered the backpack because of rain? that sounds like CSI but for real life.
Not trying to be disrespectful but if he was stabbed at a school track meet then why weren’t they locked down immediately? Like where were the teachers/cameras/whatever, you’d think there’d be more footage. And now they’re saying he covered the backpack from the rain… so was there even time to save the evidence or did they just find it later? I don’t know, trial stuff is weird.
