Auburn’s recruiting rebound had a clear target and a quick response.
The Tigers missed out on four-star edge rusher JaBarrius Garror on Friday, but on Sunday they struck again with a pledge they didn’t expect to come easily: four-star defensive tackle Nate Kamba, beating out Ohio State and Georgia for the talent.
Kamba, listed at 6-foot-4 and 305 pounds, verbally committed to Auburn on Sunday. He made the announcement to Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals and even worked in a “War Damn Eagle” reference as he revealed his choice.
Georgia and Ohio State weren’t the only big-name competition in the picture. Kamba also had South Carolina in his mix, along with Georgia. At the moment he could have reshaped the Gamecocks’ interior defensive line pipeline, he instead committed to Auburn.
Kamba’s path reaches back through Corvian Community School in Charlotte, where he stars. His size and power have made him a standout for the interior line, and Auburn’s pitch matched the kind of role he said he wants early.
While the headline matchup was Auburn versus the programs chasing him, Kamba’s explanation leaned heavily on the person who brought the process to the next level—Auburn defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams.
“I talk almost every single day. We joke around and do stuff, but whenever it’s time to get serious we get serious,” Kamba said.
He added that Auburn wants “me to see the field early.” Kamba said he liked what he’d been shown about that plan, pointing out that Auburn “do play freshmen and they showed me that.”
The new pledge gives Auburn a boost in the rankings even as it makes up ground after the Garror miss. Auburn sits at No. 12 in team recruiting rankings for 247Sports, while On3/Rivals has the Tigers at No. 10. Kamba’s verbal commitment could help move those numbers upward as the class continues to take shape.
There’s also momentum inside Auburn’s defensive recruiting run. This is Auburn’s second four-star pledge in a week, following the commitment of linebacker Isaac McNeil, brought in to help strengthen the defense.
With Nate Kamba now in the fold. Auburn’s staff—under new head coach Alex Golesh and his team—has already turned one high-profile loss into a weekend win. The Tigers didn’t just land a name on the board; they landed one who says the relationship with King-Williams. and the promise of early playing time. is what pushed him over the edge.

War Damn Eagle lol. Auburn always finds a way to snag someone.
So he picked Auburn over Ohio State and Georgia because he “talks almost every day”?? That seems like a weird reason but I mean okay. Also freshmen on the field? Half the time that just turns into injuries anyway.
I don’t get it, they “lost out” on Garror first so how did they suddenly bounce back and land Kamba. Like did Ohio State and Georgia just give up? Sounds like Auburn’s line coach is doing the most but maybe that means Auburn’s defense is actually fine already. Either way, 6-4 305 is big, so yeah.
Hayes Fawcett and On3/Rivals announcements are so chaotic. Half the time these guys flip, so I’m not celebrating yet. Plus “War Damn Eagle reference” like c’mon man we’re really doing catchphrases in recruiting now? I’m just saying if they were that good at getting defensive tackles, why did they miss Garror first.
