Apple TV 4K multiview lets fans split live sports

Apple TV 4K multiview lets viewers watch multiple live sports at once, with up to four streams in most leagues. Baseball is the exception, with only two games available alongside Apple’s MLB Big Inning studio show. MLS and Formula 1 add their own multiview qui
The promise sounds simple: one screen, several games. On Apple TV 4K, multiview turns live sports into a grid so you can keep pace with more than one match as the action unfolds.
For most sports, the setup starts the same way. You select one stream you want in the grouping. and the multiview options show up in the playback controls or in the in-stream menu. From there, you build your multiview from a menu of currently available games and shows. The cap is usually four streams simultaneously.
MLB plays by different rules. When you’re watching an MLB game. a multiview icon appears on the player controls beside subtitles. alternate audio feeds. and picture-in-picture (PiP). But Apple TV only broadcasts a maximum of two MLB games at once. That limitation means MLB multiview offers only three building blocks: the two games themselves and Apple’s MLB Big Inning studio show.
MLS fans get a bigger grid, with the ability to watch up to four games in multiview. If you prefer a slightly different mix. you can also watch up to three games and include Apple TV’s MLS 360 whiparound show. That studio show isn’t just studio filler—it provides live look-ins at in-progress games. real-time analysis. and ongoing discussions of all the day’s action. To set up an MLS multiview. you start by watching any match; the multiview icon appears in the playback controls. where you can browse the available live games and shows.
Formula 1 takes the feature a step further. Apple TV subscribers get an F1 TV Premium subscription for this season because Apple has partnered with F1. Even so, a lot of what’s included can be accessed through the Apple TV app—including the multiview selection. After you pick your main feed. the multiview option shows up in the in-stream menu just below the main playback view. and it can be made to appear by swiping down on the Apple TV 4K remote.
The F1 multiview can be built around more than one kind of picture. In addition to the main race feed. you can create a multiview that includes a driver tracker. a telemetry chart (live timing). and dedicated cameras for P1. P2. and P3. You can also choose each car’s onboard camera. The Apple TV app offers some pre-made multiview recipes, but it also allows a fully custom setup. And if you’d rather follow the broadcast crew than the F1 TV crew used in the Apple TV main broadcast. Apple gives race fans the option of a Sky Sports feed with its commentary team.
Once your grid is up, multiview stays interactive. You can highlight each of the streams by swiping over from box to box. When you move focus in this way. the audio switches to the highlighted stream. while the video from the other streams remains visible as long as multiview is active. If you decide you only want one feed, you can click to select it and watch it on its own.
Multiview isn’t the only tool on Apple TV 4K for juggling live events. Picture-in-picture (PiP) is also available. It lets you keep a game or race minimized in the corner while you browse other apps and menus on the streaming box. PiP appears in the playback controls once you’ve selected a game. race. or show—and unlike multiview. it works with anything you’re watching. even workouts in the Fitness app.

Cool I guess but my internet can barely handle one stream lol
So it’s like sports on a grid? That sounds fun until it lags. Baseball only two games?? feels like they’re cheaping out.
Wait Apple TV multiview… does that mean you can watch every team at once or is it only like “select leagues”? I saw something about MLB Big Inning but I thought that was a highlight show. Now it’s like a third stream??
Apple always makes it sound simple like “one screen, several games” and then it turns into a million menu clicks. Also why does baseball get limited? Like who’s making those rules, the umps? I just want to click and have 4 games up, not deal with icons, PiP, alternate audio, whatever. If MLS includes that MLS 360 show though, maybe that’s actually useful? Not sure.
