Anthropic tests desktop-like Claude Cowork for mobile access

A task doesn’t always finish when you’re watching it.
Anthropic appears to be testing Claude Cowork support on mobile, with a feature that lets people manage long-running Claude tasks from their phones. Claude Cowork is Anthropic’s desktop-focused agentic mode, designed to bring some of Claude Code’s task-running abilities into everyday knowledge work.
Where Claude Code is optimized for coding and development tasks. Cowork is meant for longer. messier projects—work that involves files. documents. and iteration over time. In this mode. Claude can work on longer tasks. use files. create documents. generate spreadsheets. write reports. and keep going in the background while users monitor progress.
In practical testing described by a user. Cowork’s value shows up most when the job sprawls across folders and time. The user says it helped when dealing with documentation and pictures, and even when managing a storage partition. One example stands out: compiling a React Native app locally ran out of storage. Cowork then investigated folders within the partition and found files using most of the storage—files the user says they weren’t aware of.
Until now, Cowork has mostly been tied to Claude Desktop on macOS and Windows. But screenshots posted on X suggest Anthropic is preparing a dedicated mobile experience.
Those screenshots reportedly confirm users will be able to “start and steer tasks directly from your phone.” They also show a way to “check in from your phone. browser. or Claude desktop app.” The most explicit promise is about persistence: Anthropic says “work continues in the background. even when you close the app.”.
Still, the company doesn’t appear to be aiming for a full transformation of the mobile app into a full desktop workstation.
Based on the screenshots and Cowork’s existing explanation. Claude Cowork on mobile seems more like a remote control for Cowork running on a computer. Anthropic’s current description frames it this way: Cowork runs directly on your computer. giving Claude access to the files you choose to share. In that setup, the phone becomes the control surface, but the heavier work happens where the machine is.
Anthropic has not publicly announced full mobile Cowork support yet. But the screenshots suggest the feature is already being built into Claude for mobile access—quietly turning “walk away and come back” into a supported workflow for long tasks.

So it’s like turning your phone into a remote for a computer that’s doing your work? Cool I guess.
Ngl this sounds like one of those “it works in the background even when you close it” things that always somehow still breaks. Like where does it run, exactly? On your phone or their servers? Either way I’m skeptical.
Wait so they’re testing “desktop-like Claude Cowork” on mobile but it’s not actually a whole desktop on your phone… so it’s basically just watching? Kinda seems pointless if it’s just steering tasks. Also the storage partition example is kinda wild, like it found stuff you didn’t know existed?? that feels more like a bug lol.
I saw the screenshots going around and everybody’s like “start and steer tasks from your phone” but I’m guessing it’ll still require you to keep your computer on. “Work continues even when you close the app” — sure, but does it mean close the phone app or close the desktop program? Also if it can compile React Native and then go spelunking folders… then what else is it snooping? This is how people get scared of AI.
