Angel Reese marks 1,000th WNBA point in Atlanta

Angel Reese came to Atlanta to win, and it’s been hard to miss how direct she’s been about the reason.

In the nearly two months since the Chicago Sky traded Reese to the Atlanta Dream. the star forward has said her decision was built around championships—both what she believes she can do on the court and what she wants from the team she joined. “I wanted to win,” Reese said in late May. “I wanted to come somewhere where I was gonna be able to win. and it was the perfect fit for me. […] Off the court, I knew this was gonna be the place for me. Everybody knows that. But on the court. I wanted [to go somewhere] so I could help a team get to the championship because I’ve won at every level. I want to win a WNBA championship, no matter what it looks like for me.”.

Those words weren’t just about motivation. They came with a milestone that arrived during WNBA Commissioner’s Cup play on Tuesday, when Reese helped drive the Dream to a 91-75 win over the Connecticut Sun in Atlanta.

Reese finished the game with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists. Her sixth point of the night became the 1,000th point of her WNBA career. Atlanta Dream PR posted the milestone on X. writing that “Angel Reese’s sixth point of the night marked the 1. 000th point of her WNBA career.” The team also noted that the two-time All-Star reached the mark with a strong start to her first season in Atlanta—posting four double-doubles in eight games. leading the league in offensive rebounds per game. and ranking second in rebounds per game.

It’s the kind of run that has matched Reese’s own sense that this move was about more than individual success. Her performance in Atlanta has already been fast, measurable, and relentless. In the Dream’s season-opening win over Minnesota on May 9. Reese notched her 50th career double-double and reached that milestone in the fewest games of any player in league history—65.

Reese’s first two WNBA seasons with the Sky were full of personal achievement, too: she was a two-time All-Star and a two-time rebounding champion. But Chicago never won. In 2024, the Sky finished 13-27, then followed that with a league-worst 10-34 campaign last season.

Now. with the 2026 season still in its early stretch. Reese appears to be getting closer to what she said she came for. The Dream are 6-2 and hold the league’s second-best record behind the Minnesota Lynx (7-2). In Commissioner’s Cup play, Atlanta has kept moving—preparing to continue against the Indiana Fever on Thursday.

  1. Not gonna lie I only caught the headline but I saw she scored and got like 13 rebounds?? That’s insane. Chicago traded her and she instantly starts popping off or what?

  2. Wait so her 6th point was the 1,000th point? That seems kinda weird math lol like how is that counted. Either way 91-75 is a solid win, Connecticut must’ve been tired or something.

  3. Angel Reese said she wanted championships and now she’s in Atlanta racking up points/rebounds, good for her. But I swear the league keeps changing stuff like Commissioner’s Cup and what games count, so I’m not even sure how much this milestone matters. Also Chicago never won, okay, but maybe the whole league was stacked against them too? Either way, congrats to her, I just wish they’d explain it in simpler terms.
