Rashee Rice’s next few days will be measured in two tracks at once: time served and rehab work.
The Kansas City Chiefs receiver is currently serving a 30-day jail sentence for violating his probation. a situation complicated by the fact that he recently underwent a knee procedure. With the team’s offseason program nearing its end. head coach Andy Reid said he’s been keeping a close eye on how Rice’s medical recovery is progressing while he completes the sentence.
Reid said head trainer Rick Burkholder has had more contact with Rice and that the process has been arranged to allow rehab activities. “Just making sure that everything was set there where he could do some rehab with it. and still do the time that he needed to take care of. So, he’s on top of that,” Reid told reporters. “Thank goodness that they’re allowing him to do it. They’ve been great with that.”.
When Rice returns to football life again is the next question the Chiefs are trying to answer with clarity. Reid believes the wideout will be ready for training camp. “He gets out [of jail] here somewhere in this next week,” Reid said. “So, we’ll see where it goes from there. He’ll be back up here and working.”.
Rice’s probation status ties directly back to his legal case. He was on probation after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a March 2024 street-racing incident in Dallas. To start the 2025 season, he served a six-game suspension.
Now, as the offseason program winds down, the Chiefs’ focus is on whether the timing works out—whether the jail sentence ending soon lines up with the rehab window created for him to keep moving forward toward training camp.
