Watch drone drop Amazon delivery into pool
A woman captured the moment an drone dropped her Amazon delivery straight into her swimming pool.
An Amazon package delivered via drone in Texas just missed the mark and ended up in a customer’s pool.
In her first Amazon drone delivery, Lindsey Austen expected to see an eye-catching sight when she received an alert that her Amazon order would be delivered by drone. She told Storyful that when she heard a loud buzzing noise outside, she ran out to record the delivery.
But things went sideways when the drone hovered above Austen’s pool and dropped the package into the water.
“When it went into the pool, I was shocked,” Austen said. “I don’t think I’ll be wanting any more drone deliveries.”
Amazon did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment on Aug. 20.
Amazon expands drone deliveries
The drone delivery mishap comes as Amazon plans to expand its Prime Air drone delivery service. Amazon said it expects to reach nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns by the end of 2026.
Amazon said eligible shoppers can order millions of products, including groceries, electronics, medications and household essentials, with deliveries arriving in as fast as 30 minutes.
Prime Air currently operates 11 delivery sites serving metro areas including Phoenix; Tampa, Florida; Kansas City, Kansas; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Detroit; Omaha, Nebraska; Houston; Dallas; San Antonio; and Waco, Texas.
Amazon said the service will soon launch in the Chicago, Cleveland, Atlanta, Boise, Idaho, and Syracuse, New York, metro areas, with additional communities expected later this year as the company works toward its nationwide expansion goal.
