Alonso launched a two-run homer in the third inning, his 12th of the season, to put Baltimore up 3-1. It came off a 2-2 pitch from Connelly Early (5-3), sailing well over the Green Monster in left field and lifting Alonso to 38 RBIs for the season.

After surrendering a leadoff triple to Jarren Duran in the first. Baz settled in. retiring 10 straight batters and keeping Boston without another hit until the fifth.

That made it 1-all, a brief reset for the Red Sox before Alonso and Baltimore answered again.

Baltimore added insurance with a run in the third, and the Orioles’ lead held up. Rico Garcia struck out two in the ninth for his fourth save, sealing the 4-2 victory.

Gunnar Henderson’s day began early. His double to left in the first inning extended his Fenway Park streak of reaching base safely to 23 games — matching the number of times he has appeared at the ballpark.

Boston’s two runs came on sacrifice flies. Wilyer Abreu and Marcelo Mayer each drove in a run, but the Red Sox (9-20 at home) couldn’t get enough traffic on the basepaths to change the outcome against the Orioles.

Early lasted 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits.

With the win, Baltimore ended a three-game road skid and moved to a third straight victory.

As the series continues on Wednesday, the pitching matchup sets up with Baltimore RHP Chris Bassitt (4-3, 5.06 ERA) against Boston LHP Payton Tolle (2-2, 2.61).

  1. Baz was dealing but I swear Boston’s guys looked lost on the basepaths. Also why was that one called a double then changed later? Feels like the review always goes the same way.

  2. Am I reading that right that Alonso had 38 RBIs already? That’s insane. And I guess Orioles snapped the road skid, so… yay? Meanwhile Red Sox at home 9-20 which sounds fake like cmon.

  3. I didn’t catch the whole game but I saw the homer highlight and figured that was it. Sacrifice flies though?? That’s like nothing compared to a real blast. Also Early lasted 5 1/3, so I’m like, why not pull him sooner if he gave up the triple in the first? Baseball be weird.
