Alex Cooper Reveals First Trimester Nausea and Secrecy

Alex Cooper didn’t start her pregnancy with glamour. She started it feeling nauseous enough that “everything sounds so disgusting,” even while she was working.

On Wednesday, the Call Her Daddy host took to Instagram and posted a previously recorded video from the early weeks of her pregnancy. In the clip, filmed while she was on a work trip, Cooper talked frankly about how rough those first few months were before she publicly revealed her baby news.

“I’m so nauseous. Everything sounds so disgusting.”

But the nausea wasn’t the only burden. Cooper said the hardest part of the first trimester was the secrecy itself. While she wanted to complain the way she naturally would, she couldn’t—because she was still trying to keep the pregnancy under wraps.

“I would also say one of the hardest parts of the first trimester is not telling anyone. I just want to bitch — like, I just want to complain and be like, ‘I’m so f**king nauseous,’ and I obviously can’t say that because I’m trying not to tell anyone for as long as humanly possible.”

Cooper added that she’s the type of person who likes to vent and commiserate with others, which made the situation even harder. Still, she had her husband, Matt Kaplan, in her corner.

In her retelling, Cooper described what it looked like to deal with it day-to-day while keeping up with work. She said she was in meetings, texting Kaplan, and he’d check on her.

“So I’m in meetings texting Matt. He’ll be like, ‘How are you feeling?’ And I’m like, ‘I’m gonna die.’ And he’s like, ‘I love you so much babe.’”

Cooper also explained that during that stretch, there was at least one thing she could consistently manage: sour candy. It wasn’t exactly a balanced diet, but she framed it like survival mode—when your body only lets you stomach what it can.

Cooper first announced that she and Matt Kaplan are expecting back in May. Now, with her early-week honesty resurfacing through the reposted video, her pregnancy journey is landing with a different kind of relatability—less “headline” and more the reality people often don’t see.

As she prepares for the next chapter with Kaplan, the message from Cooper’s post is clear: the first trimester can feel miserable, and sometimes the hardest part isn’t just how you feel—it’s how long you have to pretend you’re fine.

  1. Secrecy is hard but like… she was working. Couldn’t she just say she’s sick? Seems like a choice to me.

  2. Not telling anyone “for as long as humanly possible” sounds so extra… like first trimester is only like a few weeks right? Also meetings + texting?? I feel like this is just influencer content.

  3. Everything sounds disgusting is real though, my cousin said that too. But the headline makes it sound like she’s hiding some scandal lol. Also sour candy is basically sugar… I guess survival mode or whatever. Men always say “love you babe” like that fixes nausea.
