Alex Cooper pushed back on rumors about “marital issues” with Matt Kaplan during a new episode of her podcast, describing the intense pressure she felt at the YouTube TV Upfronts in May and insisting that her and Matt are doing “great.”

On a new episode of her podcast, the 31-year-old Call Her Daddy host addressed rumors about her marriage to Matt Kaplan, and she put the spotlight on the moment that turned into instant speculation: a stressful red carpet appearance in May at the YouTube TV Upfronts.
Cooper said the rumors center on “marital issues,” but her focus during the episode was the reality behind the scenes. She recalled wanting to keep something personal private, even as her job required her to be seen publicly.
“I really wanted to pull Kylie Jenner,” Cooper said, explaining that Kylie mostly hid her pregnancy until Stormi was born. Cooper described the instinct to come out with an announcement—“Oh. I had a baby”—but said her work didn’t allow for that kind of secrecy. “The unfortunate reality is that my job does require me to be seen either on my show or out at public events.”.
She added that she told her husband she wanted to keep the pregnancy secret until late summer, but that plan didn’t hold. On the carpet, she said she became overwhelmed.
“I started hyperventilating. I am having a mental breakdown on this carpet,” Cooper recalled. “I’ve got my Spanx literally hiked up to my nipples. We’re about to be late. I am sucking in for dear life. I’m trying to make this work as we walk out the door.”
In Cooper’s telling, she and Matt Kaplan talked through how they would move through the moment together—shaping their public energy like a coordinated performance. She said Kaplan told her he’d “match” her vibe, and the two agreed on a tone that felt tightly controlled.
“We are going business. We are going professional, business professional, not business casual, business professional,” Cooper recounted. “He’s like, ‘Okay, babe, sure. Whatever you say.’ I’m like, ‘We’re gonna keep it tight. We’re gonna keep it serious. We’re gonna keep it quick.’”
Afterward, Cooper said, the speculation was less about the pregnancy itself and more about their body language—people arguing that she and Kaplan looked miserable. She pushed back on that interpretation, describing how she reframed the reactions.
“I said, ‘Babe, that is a win for a win for a win,’” Cooper told listeners. “These people, you guys are dissecting Matt and my body language together on the carpet saying, ‘This looks like an arranged marriage. Like, this relationship looks like a business deal.’”
By the end of her recollection, Cooper made her point to anyone worried about her and her husband. She assured fans that they don’t need to worry and that she and Matt are doing “great.”
